A Note from Ms. Ellison
Dear Glen Grove Families,
It is hard to believe that this is the last newsletter of the school year! We are so proud of all of our students who have accomplished and grown so much this year.
I hope that each of you has a beautiful summer filled with family, friends, laughter, and great books! Several of you have reached out about how you can continue to support your child’s academic growth and success over the summer. Please see below for some resources and/or ideas for the summer.
Enjoy summer experiences! We know that life experiences and rich discussions help grow children’s background knowledge. Try to build in some playful and educational experiences throughout the summer.
Read, read, read! Please encourage your child to continue to read each and every day. There are many great summer programs at the Glenview Public Library to check out as well!
Your child will have access to IXL all summer. This is a fantastic resource on your child’s ipad that will help your child maintain their academic gains over the summer.
Additionally, the District is offering a free summer review program called GRASP (Grand Rapids Academic Summer Program). This program includes a workbook with both math and reading review exercises. To register, complete this form no later than Tuesday, May 31, 2022.
It has been an absolute privilege serving the Glen Grove community this year. While there have been challenges, I continue to be impressed by the way the students, families, and educators have pulled together to make this year fantastic for the students. Glen Grove is an exceptional place and we should all feel proud to be part of this community.
Over the summer we will be working hard to prepare for another fantastic school year. It is our hope that it will be a year with increased normalcy and connection for our students and families. We appreciate all that you do for our school and look forward to our continued partnership in the future!

- Tuesday, May 24 - Chicken Sandwich
- Wednesday, May 25 - Hot Dog Bag Lunch Day
- Thursday, May 26 - Chicken Nuggets with Dipping Sauce
- Friday, May 27 - Cook's Choice (probably Bosco Sticks)
Everyday Choices (except Wednesday)
- Turkey Sandwich
- Yogurt and Sunflower Kernels and Muffin
- Peanut Butter and Jelly Uncrustable Sandwich
All meals include milk and a variety of fruit and vegetable options.
Special note for Wednesday May 25
Field Day is also our traditional Hot Dog Bag Lunch Day. Our lunch staff will prepare hot dog bag lunches, including chips, raisins and other goodies, that can be taken outside if the teacher chooses to have a picnic. Milk will also be available. There will be no other hot lunch and no Everyday Choices available. If your child does not want a hot dog lunch, please pack a lunch from home. In case of rain and postponement of Field Day, Wednesday and Thursday's lunches will be switched.
Please note that, due to supply chain issues, all items are subject to change without notice.
The Food Services department is experiencing unprecedented staff shortages. To continue to provide meals to students in this environment, we may need to adjust to a limited menu, removing the hot entree option. This change may happen on any given day, at one or multiple schools. We will provide information to families at a particular school if this does happen, though communication may occur on short notice.
We appreciate your understanding!
From the Nurse's Office
If you need any help or support during this difficult time of the pandemic, please do not hesitate to call Jennifer Hastings, RN, our Health Coordinator, at (847) 657-2394.
All student absences should be called into the health office no later than 7:45 a.m. at (847) 657-2394. The school has voicemail so parents can call the health office to leave messages at any time.
If your children come to school after 7:45 a.m. please have them come through the front office. This is for the safety of all of our students.
Mandatory Health Forms for 2022-2023 Incoming 6th Graders
All incoming 6th grade students MUST have a physical examination (within the last 12 months), including required vaccinations, turned in prior to August 25, 2022. Your child will NOT be able to start middle school until the physical form is turned in. If your child's health forms are already complete, you can turn them into the Glen Grove health office any time between now and the last day of school. They will be forwarded to your child's middle school with their health file. If you have any questions, please call Mrs. Hastings, Health Coordinator, at (847) 657-2394. Click here for the health exam form.
*NEW THIS YEAR* Health forms can be uploaded here.
Service Club News
Sign Up for GRASP Summer Learning by May 31
As part of the District's summer offerings, we are partnering with the Grand Rapids Academic Summer Program (GRASP) this year to offer an optional summer review program at no charge. GRASP is a way for your child to maintain reading and math skills while on summer break.
Students receive a workbook with nine units of review exercises to complete each week. Families mail answer sheets to GRASP for scoring. Or, you can avoid postage and drop off answer sheets at the District 34 Administration Building, 1401 Greenwood Road. GRASP materials are available only in English at this time.
To register, complete this form no later than Tuesday, May 31, 2022. After you register, materials will be mailed directly to your home. Please submit a separate form for each child you wish to register.
Please only register if you are able to complete all required lessons and send in answer sheets weekly. By completing this form, you are making a commitment that your child will fully participate in GRASP for Summer 2022.
If you need assistance with registration in your native language, please email Cathy Kedjidjian.
News From the LRC
Thank You Book Fair Volunteers
Over $8,000 worth of books were sold at the book fair. Thanks to all the parent volunteers who helped. A special thanks to Mr. Hoppe and Mrs. Casey for their extra assistance with the registers all week. We really appreciate everyone’s help to make the book fair a wonderful success!
Returning Library Books
We want to ensure that we get all of the library books back before the last day on May 27th. Students can check their account on Destiny Discover after logging in and clicking on My Stuff, under Checkouts.
As we approach the last days of school, we ask that lost books be paid for by cash or a check made out to Glen Grove School. If the paid books are found before May 27, we will refund your money.
Suggestions for Summer Reading
Students often don’t know what to read over the summer. Check out the great titles on the Bluestem (for 3-5 grade) and the Caudill (4-8 grade) lists. Students going into 4th and 5th grade can enjoy reading titles from the Battle of the Books list that is put together by the Glenview Public Library for next school year’s program.
Our Little Free Library is always available. It is located outside the school to the right of the front doors. Take what you need and feel free to either borrow or keep the books you choose. Do you have books you don’t need anymore? Feel free to donate them to the Little Library. We just ask that the books are in good condition for others to enjoy.
Glenview Public Library
The GPL summer reading program’s kick off event will be on June 4th anytime from 11 am - 2 pm in the South Patio Tent. The first 500 people will get a free Kona Ice.
Free Books for District #34 Students
Students are able to pick up one of three titles free at the GPL starting on June 1st. Students do not need to have a library card. This is a partnership with GPL and Glenview School District #34. Check out the details below.
