Crockett Cougar Chatter
August 2023
King's Kickstart
Dear Students, Caregivers, and Staff of Crockett Early College High School,
I am thrilled to re-introduce myself as Shana King (she/her/ella), the Interim Principal of Crockett Early College High School in the Austin Independent School District. It is an honor to serve in this role and continue my relationship with this incredible community.
During the past 14 years, I have had the privilege of serving in various roles at Crockett ECHS, including intern, science teacher, cheerleading coach, Assistant Principal, and most recently, Academy Director. I have a deep love for this community, and my experiences have given me a unique understanding of our school's many strengths and unique areas of opportunity.
This year, we are committed to a year of JOY for everyone in our community. We will do this by focusing on three crucial pillars: Belonging, Engagement, and Outcomes.
Belonging is at the heart of everything we do. We strive to create a space where all community members feel welcome and valued, where everyone is free to embrace their authentic selves. Together, we will build strong connections with one another, fostering an environment that promotes understanding, empathy, and a true sense of belonging.
Engagement is the key to meaningful learning experiences. We are dedicated to crafting classes that prioritize joy, success, curiosity, originality, and relationships every single day. By engaging actively in our learning, we will unlock our full potential and create a vibrant atmosphere of knowledge, discovery, and growth.
Outcomes are our ultimate goal. Every student's journey, from the first day to graduation and beyond, will be guided by their passions and interests. We are committed to inspiring measurable growth and providing the support needed to ensure that every student is prepared for success in college, career, and life.
The administrative team and I are eager to welcome all of you back to campus on Monday August 14th. I look forward to catching up in our courtyard under the live oak trees, cheering on our athletes and artists, and seeing the creative learning experiences our teachers will provide. I also hope to see you at both “Meet the Principal '' and “Meet the Cougars” on Friday August 11th. See below for more information.
Please reach out to me with any questions, concerns, or ideas; your input and partnership are essential in shaping the future of our school. Together, let's embrace our Cougar Pride and continue the work to be “Always Victorious”!
I leave you all with this quote about joy from Gholdy Muhammad as we enter this new phase together: "What makes you different also makes you special, and feeling special can lead to Joy. Joy is a special enlightenment."
Shana King, Proud Interim Principal

Apply for CHS Campus Architectural Team (CAT)!
Austin ISD has so much to be proud of! With your help, Austin voters passed the largest and most equitable bond Austin ISD has ever seen in November 2022. We got here with the hard work of the community, teachers, staff, trustees and you by keeping our students at the center of the vision. This work and engagement will continue as we implement the Bond. We’re excited to share the full schedule for the modernization projects.
We are getting ready to hit the ground running on these projects, starting with the modernization of our school! The first step in the process is the formation of Campus Architectural Teams (CATs). You might already be familiar with these, but they are a team of teachers, staff, parents, and community members that meet with your campus’s architects to guide the design and make decisions for your school’s project.
CATs will work with the campus design team through every step of the process, from preliminary designs to move-in and grand openings. If you are interested in joining a CAT, please complete this form by Sunday, August 27.
Once again, thank you for your tireless efforts on behalf of our students to make this vision a reality! We could not do any of this without your support.
Sincerely,
Shana King
Interim Principal

Crockett Victory Garden
Crockett Victory Garden needs your help to rise once again.
If you have any large cardboard boxes – I would love to cover up the exposed bed to kill the weeds and preserve the microbiome.
I can come get them or you could be super cougartastic and set them on the blue tarp in the garden.
P.S. Also looking for other sponsors to help share the load and re-beautify this space for all to enjoy.
Please and thank you!
