Famous Explorers For France

Jacques Cartier, he found what we now call Canada.

Jacques Marquette, this man found Michigan.

Exploring

Spain was building its New World Empire, France was exploring the Americas. In 1524, Giovanni da Verrazano was commissioned to locate a northwest passage around North America to India. He was followed in 1534 by Jacques Cartier, who explored the St. Lawrence River as far as present-day Montreal.


Territories Claimed - In 1534 Jacques Cartier sailed down the St. Lawrence River and reached the Great Lakes. He claimed this territory for the king of France.

Motivation for Exploring.

The Explorers wanted to find spices riches gold etc to go on long dangerous Journeys to go get riches.



Improved Sailing - They Improved the sail and made New Trade Routes so people could get to places to go trade.


The Impact Today - The impact of our country exploration would be opening up new trade routes for tracing with other countries, to get riches gold or spices and sauces.

Fun Facts

They Began the settlement of New France, developing the dur industry and fostering a more respectful relationship with the many of the inhabitants.

They Learned to make foods and sauces. Wrought-iron balconies are part of the French Quarter in new Orleans Large porches that connect rooms rather than hallways.
