SHS Academic Decathlon Team
The SHS Academic Decathlon team recently went to Purdue University to compete in their first state competition. The team made a good first showing with several team members receiving medals. The team finished 9th in the state. Academic Decathlon team members who competed in the state competition included: Eliza Mount, Olivia Reul, Logan Weilbaker, Carson Cox, Jaren Cox, Avery Kendall, and Elijah Crawford.
The following students received medals:
Art - Carson Cox 2nd place
Economics - Eliza Mount 1st place
Essay - Logan Weilbaker 1st place
Essay - Carson Cox 2nd place
Interview - Eliza Mount 2nd place
Math - Eliza Mount 1st place
Social Science - Olivia Reul - 1st place
Social Science - Eliza Mount 1st place
WINTER GUARD
WINTER GUARDS BRING OUT THE BROOM!
Last weekend, all three Winter Guards traveled to Conner High School in Hebron, KY to compete in the TriState Marching Arts circuit of competition. This was the second weekend that all three guards competed. Each either added to and/or cleaned their program and performed very well. Judges comments were extremely high and all three groups were awarded first place for their respective classes, meaning Scottsburg swept their respective classes. Each group actually won their class by 2 or 3 points. Congratulations to the Winter Guards on an outstanding weekend!
The Junior Varsity and Middle School groups will travel to Campbell County High School in Alexandria, KY tomorrow to compete in another TriState Marching Arts contest. The Varsity Winter Guard will travel to Northview High School in Brazil, IN to compete in Indiana High School Color Guard Association competition. The Middle School performs at 10:12 am and the Junior Varsity at 2:22 pm ET. Cost is $9 per person for admission. The Varsity Winter Guard performs at Northview HS at 5:32 pm ET. Cost is $7 per person for admission.

WINTER PERCUSSION
WINTER PERCUSSION CONTINUES STRONG START
Last weekend, the Scottsburg Winter Percussion travelled to Franklin Community High School in Franklin, IN to compete in another Indiana Percussion Association Contest. Scottsburg followed up the previous week’s strong performance with another strong one after adding more to their show. Scottsburg was awarded 2nd place out of 6 groups and missed winning the class by 0.7 points. So far this early in the season, the group has finished in 2nd place at both of their contests. Congratulations on a strong start to the season!
The Winter Percussion will take this weekend off as several members of the group are participating in the 2019 ISSMA State Solo & Ensemble Festival at Indianapolis North Central High School throughout the day. The group will resume contests on March 2nd at Noblesville High School. Congrats on a great start to the season and best of luck to those participating in State Solo & Ensemble tomorrow!
WINTER SPORTS BANQUET
The 2019 Winter Sports Banquet will be held on Tuesday, March 5th in the SHS Commons 6-8 PM. Each athlete on his/her winter sports team will provide the following:
Boys Basketball & Wresting-bring a dessert.
Girls Basketball, Cheer, Boys & Girls Swimming-bring a vegetable dish or some sort of side dish.
The meal will begin at 6 PM. The awards program will begin about 7:00 PM.
