Fall 2020: Reunite. Re-imagine. Relaunch.
Board Highlights - September 17, 2020
Policy News
To go along with revised Policy 5010, Affirmative Action and Non-Discrimination, that was adopted at the September 3rd Board meeting, HR brought for the revised procedures, 5010P (see below).
At our regular meeting, the Board received an update on the modernization plans for West Sound Technical Skills Center. The State Legislature provided $500,000 for Pre-Construction Stage funding in the 2019-2021 Biennium to cover current pre-design efforts. Additional Construction Stage funding has been requested for the 2021-2023 Biennium to cover design and construction costs associated with an expansion and modernization of the facility. A legislative decision regarding the 21/23 funding request will be determined no later than July 2021.
The Board welcomed our student representative, Rodgie Oliver, who will represent Bremerton High School for the 2020-21 school year.
Other Written Reports: Dr. Steedman presented the enrollment report for the first four days of school. As is true around our region, our student enrollment is down. Director Bevers provided the Board with the 2020-21 Holidays and Recognition Schedule that will be shared with administrators.
The Board is continuing its book study on How to be Less Stupid about Race by Crystal Erin Fleming. They will finish the book and have their follow-up discussion at an October meeting.
Study Session
The Board held its first in a planned series of study sessions on the topic of Equity. Patricia Beuke, Director of Learning Support at the OESD, led this discussion and helped us explore the topic, including a review of the language and considering what it means to have an equity lens. We hope you’ll watch for and join us at our upcoming sessions regarding educational equity.

- Here’s how to change your sharing settings on Google Docs, Slides, etc.
Keep your parents informed by inviting them to link as a parent/guardian for Google Classroom and activating parent summaries.
