MKG Messenger April 13, 2020
The Principal's Office
It has been wonderful hearing from students and families through emails, phone calls and on our Zoom meetings. We are pleased so many students have been able to gather using this platform!
We want to take this opportunity to remind families that the “Extended Learning Opportunities” that are on the Middleboro Public Schools web page are there for your students to take advantage of each day. Although voluntary, we strongly urge each family to access these opportunities. If you are having any difficulty accessing these please contact your child's teacher. Our "Extended Learning" plans include opportunities for online as well as project based activities.
Reminder that "to go" bags for breakfast and lunch are available daily from 9:00AM - 10:00AM at HBB.
The Extended Learning will continue during the week that would have been the April vacation (April 21 - April 24). Monday, April 20, 2020 is Patriot's Day.
Grade 1
This week's Extended Learning focus area:
1. Animal Habitats: Where does your favorite animal live? 1. Pick an animal. 2. Where does your favorite animal live? Where does your favorite sleep? Find information in a book, online, and/or talk with someone. 3. Show what you know or have learned… make a picture, poster, or diorama.
2. Animal Homes: Let’s build a cave or a home for an animal. What can you find outside? Go outside and collect sticks - any size and any length. You can stack them like a teepee or a triangle. You can fill in the holes with leaves or dried grasses. Who lives in the house you built? What can you find inside? If you are inside, then use what you have like blocks or straws, pape. Build a house for an animal inside.

Focus for the week: What time is it? Earth Week
Write a Story:
Materials: paper, pencils, pens,crayons, imagination
Write a story about your recycled bug. It can be an imaginative story about an adventure your bug had. Another option for writing could be a step by step instruction (think like writing a recipe) using the list you made on Thursday and using sequence words such as first, next, then, after that, and finally about the recycled bug. Don’t forget to use your neatest and best handwriting, start your sentences with capital letters, and use ending marks! Use juicy words, and draw awesome pictures to match your writing!

Focus for the week:
Around the World! MKG students value diversity and take opportunities to learn about global cultures and ideas. Let’s take time to understand differences so we can come together as a global community.
Create an Imaginary City:
On a piece of paper draw the city you are imagining. Be sure to include the names of stores, restaurants, housing, parks, movie theaters, and places people may work or visit. Remember to include places that would persuade people to visit YOUR city!

Grade 5
Focus of the week:
Connections Connections are interactions between objects or people. We make connections in so many ways everyday. As we face the situation we are in now, it is clear our connections have changed. This week we will look at some connections that are constant like gravity, math, and expecting you to read daily. We also want to look at and discuss how our personal and academic connections have changed. There are ups and downs. How do you use last week's theme of handling challenges to keep connected?
Write a letter to your teacher about how your connections have changed. Some may be good, some may be not good. What do you like/not like the most? What is fun? What is difficult? Do you prefer this or do you miss the face to face? Be thoughtful about your personal feelings and experiences.
