Do you want your child to SHINE? At Legacy Christian we will teach your child to SHINE socially, academically and most importantly, spiritually. We invite you to consider Legacy Christian School! This is a “walk-in” type preview where you and your child may come to see our Preschool, Young 5's, Traditional Kindergarten and Spanish Immersion Kindergarten “in action”. You will have the opportunity to meet the teachers, observe the classroom and learn more about what Legacy has to offer for your child’s first experiences in school! IOWA TESTS OF BASIC SKILLS

Iowa Tests of Basic Skills will be administered to students in grades 3-8 during testing periods on Feb. 25-March 8. 3rd, 5th & 6th grades will be tested during the week of Feb. 25. 4th, 7th & 8th grades will have testing during the week of March 4. During these testing days we encourage all students to be in school regularly, eat and sleep properly, and come to school ready to do their best. Parents are encouraged to not schedule medical/dental appointments for your children during the testing days. Students who are ill and miss school for a portion of the test will either be able to catch up when they return or complete the tests during a special testing session. Parent copies of all test results will be sent home with end-of-the-year report cards.

IT'S LEGACY'S MONTH TO COVER SHIFTS AT NEW LIFE THRIFT STORE

MARCH is Legacy's month to provide volunteers for the New Life Thrift Store. For those new to the Legacy Community, Legacy benefits financially each year from the proceeds of the Thrift Store. In return, we are required to supply the volunteers several times a year. Each time slot is only a few hours of your time! It would be GREAT if every LCS family could get involved!   • Spanish Immersion will again be offered this fall for Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades! Will you have a kindergarten student here at LCS next year? Make plans to attend our walk-in Preview Days on Friday, March 1, Tuesday, March 19 and Friday, April 19, from 9:00-10:00 am, where you can see this program and our other fantastic early childhood classes in action!   • SKI CLUB - This Thursday, Feb. 21, will be our final outing for Legacy Ski Club for the year. We have had a lot of fun and hope you have enjoyed your time on the slopes!   • Notes from the west campus music room: These are some upcoming music events and dates: Tuesday, April 16, is our annual Fine Arts Night with performances by the 5th and 6th grade bands, orchestras and choir at 6:30 pm, followed by the 7th/8th grade band, orchestra and choir at 7:30 pm, in our gym. Thursday, May 2, is Grandparents' Day. There will be late morning performances by all of our music groups in grades 5th-8th. Our annual Pops Concert (west campus performs for the elementary students) is scheduled for Thursday, May 23, at 1:30 pm, at the west campus.

  • MOVIE NIGHT IS BACK! Come watch Incredibles 2 on March 2, from 6:00-8:00 pm, at the West Campus Commons. Tickets are only $4 at the door. Pizza, pop, and candy will be available for purchase. Enjoy a night with your friends and support Camp Roger through your teachers (Mr. DeYoung, Mr. Veltema, Mrs. Morren, Mrs. TerBeek, and Mrs. DeHaan) as they participate in Joe's Big Race. All proceeds will go to supporting Camp Roger.

RUNNING CLUB IS COMING

ATTENTION 3RD, 4TH, AND 5TH GRADERS! Running club is coming! Running Club will start Thursday, March 7, at the elementary gym at 3:15 pm. We will be doing a Tuesday / Thursday schedule this year. 5th graders can bus over to the elementary. Open to all boys and girls looking for fun and to run a 5K. Cash and Carry is open on Thursdays from 7:45-10:00 am, at the west campus. Reminder - If school is closed Cash and Carry will also be closed.

TERRACYCLE

It's back! There is a new E-Waste Recycling Brigade. Accepted waste includes WORKING and NON-WORKING cell phones, smart phones, iPhones, laptops, notebooks, netbooks, iPads and tablets. This brigade also accepts inkjet cartridges from HP and Canon printers ONLY. (Please note that house/portable phones, chargers, or loose batteries are NOT accepted through this program.)


The Flonase Brigade is closing in March. If you have any Flonase nasal spray cartridges or the rigid plastic packaging to TerraCycle, please turn them in by March 11.

MOMS IN PRAYER

Moms in Prayer will meet THIS Friday, at 8:45 am, in the conference room, right after worship to pray for our student body, school and the following specific staff/board members: Vince Bonnema, Gail Hansen, Jeff Kroschell and Cinda Wilson.

Prayer is a powerful gift! LCS has always been able to pray for requests as they arise. Our school has also decided to lift up families weekly in prayer.   • Did you know South Christian has a Conference Championship swim team? To all incoming freshmen swimmers and divers, we need you! Swimming is a great sport to get involved in. No experience needed to join. If you have a background in gymnastics you should consider being a diver. There will be a short informational meeting held at South Christian on March 4, at 6:30 pm, for both parents and swimmers.
