Garden City Library Update
December 2019
Spend an Hour of Code at Home
Dec. 9-15 is Computer Science Education Week. In library, we will be discussing how algorithms work and creating series of steps for activities such as drawing a smiley face, making a pattern on graph paper, and constructing towers of plastic cups.
Families can extend the learning at home by doing some of the tutorials at Code.org, including a new Artificial Intelligence game.
Free Online Tutoring Available
Did you know that every student in Cranston with a working Cranston Public Library Card is entitled to a free online tutor? This service is provided by a collaboration between the Cranston Public Schools and the Cranston Public Library.
If your Cranston student has a working library card, just click on Tutor.com/Cranston and follow the instructions to create an account.
Once they have an account they can:
- Chat with a tutor about a homework question
- Drop off an essay for editing
- Take practice tests
- Watch videos about concepts they are learning
If your student does not have a working library card, you can accompany them to your local branch library to apply for a card. You will need to bring proof of address. To save a few minutes, you can print and fill out the form ahead of time.
