Tomorrow is Open House! On Tuesday, September 6, starting at 6 p.m., parents are invited to the schools to follow in their student’s footsteps. This year, we have adjusted the schedule to allow for more time in each of the classrooms. We hope to see you there Eagle families!
National Merit qualifying test for students: Oct 15
The National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test is a test students take to enter the National Merit Scholarship Program, an academic competition for recognition and scholarships. Typically, students who score in the 98th national percentile or higher are offered scholarship and recognition opportunities.
The qualifying test is being offered at no charge on Saturday, October 15, at 8 a.m. at West Leyden. Participants are responsible for their own transportation to/from West Leyden. Students received an email with a link to sign up. For more information, please contact assistant principals Jorge Sanchez (East) or Meghan O’Neil (West).

Financial aid process starts Oct 1
Applying for college financial aid is a graduation requirement and the process for families begins October 1. To receive federal financial aid, a student must be a citizen or eligible non-citizen of the United States with a valid social security number. To begin the process, visit studentaid.gov or the Leyden website (EAST) (WEST) for additional information.
Yearbook photos for underclassmen
Underclassmen yearbook photos will be taken September 19 and 20 during P.E. classes in the fieldhouse. For students who don't have P.E., the photographer will be available after school until 3:30 p.m.. Email vgiordano@student.leyden.org with questions.
Students: What’s next? Start planning for life after Leyden
The Nest is open! What is the “Nest” you ask? It’s a post-secondary resource center available for students during lunch periods (Mon. Wed. Fri.). Connect with a counselor to plan for college, career, resumes, job interviews, scholarships, financial aid, or just to explore the possibilities. The Nest is located on the mezzanine in room D202.

Schiller Park Fire Fighters announces two new scholarships
Schiller Park Fire Fighters Local 5230 will offer two scholarships for East Leyden students from Schiller Park or Franklin Park. One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student who plans to enroll at Triton and pursue a career in Fire or Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and one $500 scholarship will be awarded to a student pursuing a college education in any field. Scholarships will be awarded based on financial need and GPA. All scholarship opportunities at Leyden are provided to seniors and families on January 11, 2023.

Safe2Help Illinois is a school safety program that offers students 24/7 access to support services that might help prevent suicides, bullying, school violence or other threats to school safety. In the absence of a trusted adult, students can get the help they need in a confidential way through the app, website or by text/phone.
