Update for March 24th
From Your Special Areas Team
As we all learn from our first week of NTI, special areas will be making some changes and improvements to make it easier for parents and students to access our lessons for your children.
You can easily find special areas lessons by going to Google Classrooms and choosing the Special Areas classroom available for your child. (World language has a separate Google Classroom for classes in grades 2-5 called "Nihongo.") Once there, click the "Classwork" tab at the top of the page. You will find the lessons clearly marked under the special area heading. We have worked together to make the Google Classroom experience more uniform and simpler to understand. Thank you for your patience as we all learn this new technology!
The goal of the special areas team during these NTI days is to provide your student with experiences that enrich each student's learning and cultivate the development of the whole child, while still staying true to each content's standards.
Each week, please encourage your child to try to complete lessons from special areas. Although all content areas are important, we do not want students and parents to feel stressed by specials lesson as we all adapt to this new normal for learning. Students are free to complete them on their own time table, as they can. Special areas can help provide something different for your child to learn and experience that may be a welcome break from their core content area work. Thank you!
Important Update on use of our playground!

Parents/guardians,
We understand that the Non-Traditional Instructional (NTI) days are new and different. New and different can be exciting, but it can also lead to frustration and/or worry. Your students may experience feelings of sadness over missing their friends and teachers. They may experience worry about getting their school work completed or having a new routine and schedule. If your child experiences any of these feelings it is important to let them express themselves without judgment. Let them know that their feelings are normal and ok. Sometimes just listening is the best thing we can do. Attached is a one sheet guide on handling worry. You can gently remind the kids to use some of the strategies that we have learned at school that are outlined in this handout.Have a question? Ask your teacher!
Feel free to email with questions throughout the evening or in the morning. Those questions will be answered during school hours as soon as the teacher is able to get to them.
How do I join my child's Google Classroom?
We miss our Mustangs! Thank you to our PTSO for all the encouragement!

From Your Assistant Principal, Mr. S
Student Behavior Norms & Procedures for Google Hangouts
The same behavioral expectations of the classroom apply to online learning.
When in a Google Hangout you are in a classroom.
Unmuting and talking is like calling out and interrupting in class.
Having side conversations in the chat bar is like talking to a friend while the teacher is teaching.
Unnecessary comments (not related to the topic or side conversations) in the chat can distract your peers and also prevent your teacher from seeing helpful questions or comments related to the discussion
Expected Behaviors In Google Hangouts
-Students will mute upon entering and only unmute when directed to by teacher
-Students will stay on topic and participate
-Student will only use the chat feature to contribute to the class conversation. No side conversations or off topic posts.
-Students will be respectful to all other participants (teachers and students)
Consequences
-Redirection from teacher/reminder of procedure not being followed.
-Removal from chat for that day
-Parent contact
Digital Citizenship
Digital Citizenship is showing your Mustang Pride online - making sure we are safe, respectful, and responsible while online and working at home.

District Food Delivery
Families will no longer be able to pick up food at their schools beginning Wednesday 3/18/20. Families will still need to call ahead to help us know how many meals to prepare for each location. Our buses will be delivering food to the locations and times are listed on the links below. Phone numbers to call and reserve a meal are also available via the links.
Please remember, ALL students that come to a location will be served a meal. This is not for just students that are on free and reduced lunch programs. A child can be served at any location in the district.

A Message from Nurse Aimee
I hope everyone is staying healthy and washing their hands. If I can help you in anyway or if you have questions, please don’t hesitate to e-mail me at aimee.lind@boone.kyschools.us.
Here are some links with some good information. The youtube video is a good one and answers a lot of questions that our kids might be asking. Try staying off social media, it is overwhelming and not always the most up to date and accurate information.
