The Sandcastle Times - July 2020
"Building Strong Foundations for Lifetime of Learning"
A message from Holly Bevilacqua, COO
With summer underway and the smell of sunscreen filling the halls, we are excited for the next month ahead. The sun is finally shining! Our Camps have kicked off the summer with a bang and have lots of upcoming adventures to keep them busy.
In the rest of the center, each of our classrooms have worked hard to incorporate some really cool and fun activities for their students. To stay abreast of upcoming activities please refer to the Monthly Calendars or the Carelot website.
Unfortunately due to Covid-19, we are not able to go on out of the building field trips. However, we have planned several "virtual" trips and activities to enhance our summer programming. We also have CT music coming to the Centers to conduct outdoor music concerts!
We continue to follow all OEC and CDC recommendations for our programs and look forward to providing your children with the best summer ever!!
Summer tips and reminders
When going on vacation this summer please inform the teachers of the days you will be out so they can plan accordingly. Thank you! ALSO- remember that you may be required to meet the 14- day quarantine upon your return.
Please remember to call the center by 9:00 am if your child will be absent or coming in late. This helps us plan our staffing for the day. Thank you!
Water play has officially begun in our centers. The children really look forward to these days so please make sure your child has a complete set of water play clothes here so everyone can participate. This includes a bathing suit/extra clothes, water shoes, & a towel. We do water play at least a couple of times during the week as part of our gross motor/sensory curriculum! Don’t forget to apply sunscreen to your child before they arrive each day! Paba Free and SPF of 15 or higher please! Water play occurs on various days depending on the weekly schedule and weather so please have your child’s water play items at school each week! Check with your child's classroom for details.
Covid -19 Reminders
Persons who have a fever of 100.40 (38.00C) or above or other signs of illness will not be admitted to the facility. We encourage parents to be on the alert for signs of illness in their children and to keep them home when they are sick. Screen children upon arrival, if possible.
- Parents/guardians, please take their child’s temperature either before coming to the facility or upon arrival at the facility. Upon their arrival, please stand at least 6 feet away from other staff, parents/guardians and children.
- Confirm that the child does not have fever, shortness of breath or cough.
- Staff will make a visual inspection of the child for signs of illness which could include flushed cheeks, rapid breathing or difficulty breathing (without recent physical activity), fatigue, or extreme fussiness.
- Adults are asked to wear face masks upon entering the building.

July Question of the month "What is your favorite memory about Carelot?"
Our June Winner was: Colleen Monahan from the Waterford Center!!!
There is not just one person who has made a difference. The whole Killingly staff has always been consistent in making my children's days great! My children have not attended in about 3 months but recently started back on 6/2 and they are soooo happy and excited everyday to go to daycare. They missed their friends but mostly their teachers. My children are usually in the care of either Ms Bonnie, Ms Tina, Mr Jacque or Ms Shantae and there is no way I could pick just one because they all truly make a difference each and every day. We love them all!!
Miss Vivian of course for making masks for staff, that’s two thumbs up!!
VERNA
Sue Purcell, she helped me with potty training and made it so easy for both myself and my daughter. She is always kind and understanding.
Ms. Verna
Bonnie
Tie between Verna and Colleen!!
Ms. Taylor
Lorraine Lee
Morgan Reynolds. She has done an amazing job over the past month putting the toddler program on track. Parents rave about her. Her Kid Reports are awesome, she leaves a cute personal lunch box note to parents to say their child had a good day, she changes out her bulletin boards often to keep them fresh, has the greatest circle time song....I could go on and on! She makes a difference everyday in so many ways.
Verna, she has been the most positive role model to my daughter. She has always been fair with all the kids. My daughter comes home from school leaving new things. We love her.
Cheryl R. She has worked through this whole covid with no complaints and always stays later then she has too even off the clock. She will come in early and stay later if needed. So thankful to have her a part of Waterford Carelot.

Back to school enrichment program
lFall Enrichment Program Waitlist!
If you have an interest in using this service in the fall please get on this waitlist asap. We only have 20 spaces in Killingly and 20 in East Lyme so this will fill up quickly.
This program is for parents wanting to continue distance learning with their children and also provide them an opportunity to socialize. If you are not interested in your children going back to school with all the new restrictions this is a great small classroom private education option for you.
The program will run in 2 sessions 8 am-noon and 1-4 pm. There will be an option for a full day and we do have space in before and after school-age programs for aftercare for families who work outside of those hours.
When we start taking registrations and deposits for the program we will use this list to contact you. This is a first come first serve situation.
