Serenity: This week we started our "Be Brave" project. I like it because I like studying Coretta Scott King.

What We are Learning
Reading: We are very excited to continue our Folktales unit. This week, we will be comparing and contrasting various Pourquoi tales (how and why stories) from around the world. We will discuss how storytelling is connected to culture. We will continue to practice with the RAPS strategy for our mClass written comprehension questions: R-restate the question, A- answer the question, P-prove it (where did you find it in the book), S- summarize.
Writing: Students will continue their informational writing project on brave American Leaders. We will be creating a video to display our research, including one of our favorite classroom songs: "Brave" by Sara Bareilles. Look for it soon on Twitter! :)
Fundations: We continue Unit 10 this week. Our unit assessment will be on Friday. Please make sure that your child is completing their Fundations homework nightly.
Math: We will be revisiting addition and subtraction within 100. I will be sending home a copy of the strategies that we use in class as a reference. We will move to addition and subtraction within 1,000 during this unit. It is extremely important that students complete math homework nightly for extra practice with this important concept.
Science: We are still enjoying Sound School! Last week, we focused on how we produce and receive sound. We also learned about how sound travels through air molecules. We will continue sound school on Wednesday. Learn more about this incredible program by following this link: http://moogfoundation.org/projects/dr-bobssoundschool/
Social Studies: We had another wonderful culture lesson with Ms. Allbach last Tuesday which focused on the artwork of Romare Bearden. We will continue to work on our self-portraits that portray unique aspects of our own culture. We will also learn about various cultures through storytelling and research.
