Greetings Pathway Teachers and Staff!
Welcome to the 6th week of school! (September 19th – September 23rd)
Please remember that our Pathway mission and vision must drive the work that we do every day!
As we go into week 6, please make sure that your scholars continue to observe HALL during transitions, MEAL in the cafe, and FLUSH in the restrooms. Also, please take note of the following:
It is mission critical that you be at your duty station by 7:50 a.m. every morning.
-Noise/Talking in the hall
Teachers, please remind your scholars that they must be at LEVEL ZERO in the halls. This must be enforced by you at all times, including restroom breaks, transition to and from lunch, transition to and from recess.
-Weekly Lesson Plans
Lesson Plans are due Monday, September 19th by 9 a.m.
-Record weekly grades in Tyler
At least 2 grades need to be posted in Tyler per content area (one of the grades can be a participation grade).
-4 Step Restorative Plan
This is a reminder that the C.A.R.E. team will not remove a scholar from your class without a 4-Step Plan, unless the scholar has committed a major offense..
Teachers and Staff, please remember to supervise your scholars at all times during recess.
Please remind your scholars that the same rules that apply at school, also apply when they are on the school bus.
Also, continue to have your scholars prepared to leave your classroom as soon as your grade level is called by the front office.
We will have our first PTA meeting on Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the auditorium. Please encourage your scholars to tell their parents about the PTA. The 2 classes with the most parents to sign up will receive a special treat!
The Pathway Academy "Staff Member of the Month" program is designed to recognize educators and staff members who are making a profound and positive difference in the lives of our Pathway Academy scholars. Each month during the school year (September-May), we will recognize 2 staff members with a framed award and a prize package. If you would like to nominate a fellow staff member, please email me and Ms. Blevins your nomination along with a brief reason for your nomination, by Friday, September 23rd. Make sure that you put some thought into your nomination, as this will be a key factor in who is selected each month. We will announce this month's winners on Wednesday, September 28th.
Finally, it is critical that we daily keep a laser like focus on improving the Literacy (reading, writing, and comprehension) of all of our scholars. Our scholars must be able to read, so they can succeed! We appreciate the hard work that you do for every scholar, every day, with no excuses! Please enjoy your weekend and let’s make week 6 a great week for teaching and learning at Pathway Academy!

More Nuts and Bolts
We will officially start on Thursday of this week. All we will do day one is practice transitioning. On Friday we will transition and set expectations. The list of groups and locations will be in your box early next week along with a guide on setting expectations with your group.
Academic STARS Team:
We will meet in the conference room during plan on Thursday to discuss Scholars with academic concerns. Teachers, please email Ms. Blevins, Mrs. Guthier and Dr. Williams your 1-2 biggest academic concerns (who are not already identified as SPED) with a brief explanation of concerns by Tuesday, Sept. 20th.
Make sure you are updating your webpage at least monthly. Email your updates to Patti for the month by Monday, Sept. 26. We will be awarding another Webpage of the month winner later that week!
Teacher Directed Observations (TDOs):
Reminder that this week we will be doing our TDOs! This is exciting as many of you have been wanted to observe grade level peers! The schedule, with coverage details, as well as the TDO template are linked here:

“If a child doesn’t know how to read, we teach. If a child doesn’t know how to swim, we teach. If a child doesn’t know how to multiply, we teach. If a child doesn’t know how to drive, we teach.
If a child doesn’t know how to behave, we... teach?...punish?
Why can’t we finish the last sentence as automatically as we do the others?”
As the CARE Team has been partnering with teachers and parents making BIP/BEP’s for our scholars who need behavioral support three common themes have come up in conversation with ALL of our students:
1. Our scholars are often UNAWARE of their behavior.
2. When we ask them what are our expectations at Pathway Academy, they often say that we want them to be “good.” When we ask them what “good behavior” looks like, they can’t always tell us the answer.
3. Our scholars don’t seem to know what true community is.
We’ve OBSERVED several things, but the most important that stands out in our minds, is the need for developing MINDFULNESS in our scholars….many of them are simply unaware of their behaviors or how to fix them. The term “mindful” is simply defined as AWARENESS. To be mindful is to be in conscious awareness of our behavior—those behaviors where we excel and those that we are challenged by, so that we can learn to manage ourselves. Many of our scholars have yet to FEEL the difference in their bodies from being quiet to being “hype”.
We’ll also be helping teachers identify REPLACEMENT BEHAVIORS for our scholars to TEACH them how to behave. Please look for the survey that will help us identify particular needs that you may have and with scheduling.
Have a restful and restorative weekend so that we can be recharged for Monday!!!

A few teachers have been working with the C.A.R.E Team on relationship and community building with the 2 X 10 Relationship Building Process and with intentional conflict and mediation circles in their classrooms….please let us know if you’d like to schedule some practice or role playing time with us; We are always available to partner with you.

Sunshine Survey Results
79% of the 33 who participated enjoy coming to work everyday!
18% of the 33 who particpated enjoy coming to work sometimes.
Almost everyone who particpated feel Pathway is a positive place to work!
Overall people are feeling busy, energized, motivated and happy. A few feel overwhelmed and stressed.
Most people love coming to work because of the Scholars, awesome staff and new leadership!
We are collaborative! 85% of the 33 who participated say they collaborate with their grade level teams and 9% collaborate outside of their grade level teams!
40% of the 33 who particpated are planning to go to the bowling social planned this month and 40% might go! People would like more socials!
There were a few people who had some specific concerns, but since the survey was anonymous we do not know who you are. We encourage you to reach out to your grade level administrator so we can help you get the support you need.
