Thought for the Week

Engaging and encouraging discussion, debate and discourse.

Innocent until proven guilty?

After several recent, high profile cases of people being cleared of any offences by a court of law we are asking our students whether they believe everyone should be presumed innocent until they are proven to be guilty.

A Right to Know Vs a Right to Privacy

Should we only know about these cases once the evidence has been heard and a verdict been reached?

Of course the public want to know if a criminal or dangerous person is in their area as this would allow them to be cautious of that person if they felt they needed to. However, if people make up their mind about a person before they have been found guilty it could be very difficult for that person to rebuild their life if they are later found to be innocent. What do you think?
