Instructional Tip of the Week: Remediation & Recovery
A few suggestions to make sure you are meeting the expectation of the policy:
- Develop a contract with the parents and student that clearly states when the teacher will provide reteaching (agreed upon time before or after school, in small group within the instructional setting, or leveraging an online intervention such as Exact Path, I-Ready, Edgenuity, etc) and when the recovery assessment/assignment will be given to the student.
- Once the parents have agreed to the details, put the plan in writing, email it to the parent, and give a printed copy to the student.
- Make sure you are guiding the process and are not reliant upon the student to fulfill his or her obligation. The student is secondary at this stage, as you are working directly with the parents to ensure the student fulfills the expectations established.
- Send reminders to the parents if your plan involves the student being brought early or picked up after school
Duties & Responsibility Reminders
- If you are out more than 3 days in a semester, a doctor's note must be provided for the 4th day of work missed and each day after
- TKES 10 and 30 minute observations have started. For the second round of 30 minute observations, these are not necessarily announced. Make sure you have reviewed the feedback from previous observations you have received throughout the year and are incorporating that feedback into your daily practice.
- Make sure you are in the hallways during class changes. Remind students of the PBIS expectations of walking on the right, using inside voices, and walking with purpose.
