September 25 is Building Babies’ Brains Day in GCPS
The Gwinnett County Board of Education has proclaimed today, September 25, 2020, as Building Babies’ Brains Day in Gwinnett County Public Schools!
Only 48% of children in Gwinnett County start school prepared to learn. Early brain development is a key factor in making sure children in Gwinnett County are ready to thrive in kindergarten and beyond!
Children exposed to positive early learning experiences—like reading, singing, and talking with caregivers—are less likely to have academic and behavioral problems in school. They are more likely to be strong readers by 3rd grade and graduate from high school.
This early learning initiative is vital to our community's success! Building Babies' Brains Gwinnett offers a toolkit with resources and opportunities to help enhance brain development in children under the age of 5 here: buildingbabiesbrains.com.
Reminder from the Brookwood Cafe'
The school district has extended its curbside pick-up program for free meals to five days a week instead of four. Meals may be picked up at Brookwood Elementary for digital learners and any child under the age of 18, Monday through Friday, between 12 and 1 p.m. The pick-up each day includes both breakfast and lunch. For safety reasons, individuals are not allowed to enter the school to pick up or eat meals.
We also would like to remind you that Gwinnett County Public Schools is offering meals at no charge at school sites to all students—both digital learners and those attending in-person—through December. These meals are provided at no cost to the individual through the federal School Nutrition Program. The school district encourages families who are eligible for the Free & Reduced Meal Program to fill out the annual application to ensure meal benefits continue after that time. The application is available on the GCPS website or at https://www.nlappscloud.com/.

A Message from the Art Room
Dear Brookwood Families,
Due to our Corona virus protocols when it comes to materials, students are limited to only the supplies that they bring to art class this year. Without requiring you the burden of extra purchases, I wanted to provide some ideas that will make art more exciting and meaningful for your children this year. Area stores like Michaels, Hobby Lobby and Walmart have these supplies as does Amazon. If you choose to add these materials, please have your child keep them in his or her supply box or gallon Zipzoc with their name and Classroom teacher's name written on it. Thank you for supporting the Fine Arts program at Brookwood Elementary! We're going to CREATE a great year!
Thank you,
Shea Cunningham, Art Specialist
