CELEBRATING NATIONAL PANCAKE DAY!!
Thank you to our cafeteria for the wonderful pancake breakfast in celebrating National Pancake Day on Tuesday.
A NOTE FROM MRS. B
Howdy, Bronco Family! Fall is now upon us…according to the calendar. Mornings definitely say “Hello, Fall”, but afternoons are telling us “Summer isn’t going anywhere just yet”. Many exciting things both in and out of the classroom are gearing up. The students continue to work hard. Some classes have field trips scheduled. Teachers are putting their UIL teams together to get ready for contest in November. Great things continue to happen at Burleson Elementary!
I want to be real with you all about something important. One skill that continues to be emphasized and taught in every grade level is reading. Reading is a lifelong skill for everyone. Did you know that it begins before a child is even able to speak? Reading to a baby provides the building blocks they need for language development. A study found that babies and small children who are read to everyday are exposed to approximately 78,000 words each year. That means children who are read to, from birth to 5 years of age, are being exposed to at least 1.4 million words. If a student reads or is read to at least 20 minutes daily, he or she is exposed to 1.8 million words per year. This builds vocabulary, fluency (how fast one reads accurately), and comprehension. This not only develops strong readers; it also has a hand in academic success across the board. So, let’s all pick up a book and read!
Remember, you can always find the latest Meadow ISD news on the MISD website and Facebook page, so go check them out! Also, check your kiddo’s backpack and folders for any important paper notes that may have gone home.
Don’t forget to contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions about what is going on in the classroom. We are always here to help.
It’s ALWAYS great to be a Bronco!

3RD GRADE - MRS HOUCHIN & MS. REINHART
Hey 3rd grade ELAR & Social Studies crew,
This week we learned all about figurative language. Similes, metaphors, alliterations, personifications, onomatopoeias, hyperboles, and idioms are just a few types of figurative language that authors use to make their writing more entertaining. It is important for students to be familiar with this type of language to help better comprehend what is being read.
In phonics, students are reviewing sight words. THERE IS NO HOMEWORK OR SPELLING TEST THIS WEEK!
In language arts, students are practicing finding synonyms to commonly used words, the suffix -ful, the figurative meaning of the idiom “pulling my leg”, and revising and editing sentences.
In social studies, students are reviewing the purpose of the government by reading and learning the Preamble.
Reminders:
NO HOMEWORK OR SPELLING THIS WEEK
Read for at least 20 minutes everynight
I will be out of the classroom from September 27th-October 3rd.
Thank you for all you do,
Temple Reinhart
Gracias por todo lo que hacen,

4TH GRADE - MRS. WESLEY
4th and 5th ELAR
We have been working on our RACE strategy for short answer responses. This will be a skill we use all year long to prepare for the STAAR and even in grade levels to come. I used this strategy in college as well. We will dive into different text structures and nonfiction texts next week. In Social Studies we are completing our lessons over the geographic features of Texas and will move into the Indians who lived on our land.
- I will send home their new spelling list Thursday the 5th. It has been a weird two weeks, so be on the lookout for that.
- Students need to be reading at minimum 20 minutes every single night.
- UIL tryouts will be beginning soon!
- As always, reach out if you need anything.
Thanks!
Jenna Wesley, M.S. Ed.

¡Gracias! Jenna Wesley, MS Ed.

5TH GRADE - MRS. GAMEZ & MRS GUZMAN
4th & 5th Math
-In 4th grade Math, we are still multiplying whole numbers. We will be on this topic for a while and work up to multiplying a 2-digit by digit. This is challenging for students because until now they have only multiplied a multidigit number by a 1-digit number, and if they do not know their multiplication math facts it is not fun.
-In 5th grade, we are wrapping up the Financial Literacy chapter and starting to work on place value and adding and subtracting decimals. Then we will begin to multiply and divide decimals. This is new for 5th grade, but it tends to be easy, since it is not fractions.
-All 4th and 5th Graders need to practice multiplication math facts every night for 5 minutes. Please, please, please…the numbers and the work is getting more challenging and not knowing multiplication math facts make it seem impossible.
Thank you for your support, Stacy Gamez
Luego comenzaremos a multiplicar y dividir decimales. Esto es nuevo para quinto grado, pero tiende a ser fácil, ya que no se trata de fracciones. -Todos los estudiantes de 4º y 5º grado deben practicar las operaciones matemáticas de multiplicación todas las noches durante 5 minutos. Por favor, por favor, por favor… los números y el trabajo son cada vez más desafiantes y no saber las operaciones matemáticas de multiplicación hace que parezca imposible.
Gracias por tu apoyo,
Stacy Gamez.

COUNSELOR'S CORNER - MRS ESTES
Hi Bronco Fam!
This week in SEL we continued talking about respect. We specifically discussed how we can communicate respectfully with others. Some classes talked about how to be respectful during times of conflict and taking a "time out" to calm down. We also discussed how actions speak louder than words and that our actions need to reflect respect too. In the younger grades we talked about communicating respectfully by asking for permission, sharing, and cooperating with each other. Remember to always talk about these characteristics with your kiddos at home to really reinforce the idea of respect!
Mrs. Estes
¡Hola familia Bronco!
