Our School's Mission
Our School's Why
Dear LWSH Families and Caregivers,
We thank you for partnering with us for a successful opening and completion of our first month back in school! As the new principal, it has been an absolutely wonderful experience interacting with the scholars, families, and staff here at LWSH. And it is with nothing but optimism that I look forward to the remainder of the school year!
As we move through the 21-22 school year, there is a new vision our CEO has shared amongst all stakeholders, considering what we have all learned during this pandemic. The vision is as follows:
In our pursuit of a more fair, just and good system of education, it is CMSD’s vision that each of our learners, both each of our scholars and each of their educators, is individually and collectively presented with academically/intellectually complex tasks that are worthy of their productive struggle and allows them authentic opportunities to demonstrate their work and their learning of academic content and transferable skills in a joyful and adventurous environment.
In order to ensure that what we do here at LWSH is in alignment with our CEO's, we are going to push our scholars to collaborate to solve real-world problems in the healthcare industry and present the solutions to these problems to an authentic and relevant audience. We believe that when offered these opportunities, our scholars will experience productive struggle, which in turn, will lead to a sense of pride and joy when they are able to endure obstacles and reach their goals.
In addition to that, we are currently working to build social and cross-cultural empathy amongst our scholars as well as ourselves. We believe that all LWSH stakeholders should seek to understand each other and consider other perspectives regardless of race, socio-economic status, religious beliefs, sexual preference, age, ethnicity, language, and cultural norms. To support us in this effort, our staff has decided to use the Facing History and Ourselves curriculum to create opportunities for our scholars to share and listen to the experiences of others during our Advisory periods. Our overarching goal is to create a school community committed to issues of ethics, social responsibility, and justice. And as the vision states, we are "In pursuit of a more fair, just, and good system of education", and we believe this starts with ourselves.
We have become aware that inclusivity leads to the highest level of productivity! So, let's all include ourselves and others as we partner throughout the school year to ensure all of our scholars reach their goals and attain grade-level mastery. We all look forward to working with our scholars and families throughout the school year to ROAR our way to success!
Sincerely,
Principal Juliet King

Special News and Important Family Information
District-Wide COVID Protocols
- All staff, students, and visitors must wear an appropriate face mask while in the building regardless of vaccination status.
- Staff, scholars, and visitors will maintain a distance of 3-ft or more.
- If a scholar is exhibiting COVID symptoms, our on-site nurse will complete an assessment and contact the family immediately. All scholars who show symptoms of COVID will be isolated in our designated COVID room until picked up.
- If your scholar tests positive for COVID, they must quarantine at home for the recommended time of 10 days, and it must be reported to our COVID hotline at 216-838-WELL.
- Once a positive case is confirmed in the school, we notify all families, scholars, and staff via a notice written on district letterhead.
- If your child is NOT exhibiting COVID symptoms when you receive a letter, it is still safe to send them to school. However, if you are contacted directly by a nurse or your child is beginning to show symptoms, you should keep them home and have them COVID tested.
- See CMSD's Plans for a Safe Return To In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services
- To maintain a professional culture and atmosphere, we are strongly encouraging all LWSH scholars to represent our collaboration and partnership with MetroHealth Hospitals by wearing the shirts provided to them by the schools. This includes both polos and sweatshirts.
- If your scholar is unable to wear the professional attire for LWSH, they do not have to wear the traditional dress code from previous in-person school years; however, the dress must be appropriate. See our district's policy for proper dress on the Back to School Informational section of the CMSD website.
- Students must live 1 mile or more away from the school in order to receive RTA bus tickets.
- Students who receive RTA tickets will receive their tickets weekly from our secretary Mrs. McMillan. Please be sure that your child keeps these tickets in a safe place to ensure transportation each day. These tickets are two-way (one ride to school and one ride back home) and include transfers that are valid for up to 2 1/2 hours between transfers.
- If your child is riding on a traditional school bus, you may track your child's bus with locations in real time using our Edulog app.
- If you have any questions or concerns regarding the P-EBT cards, you may contact CMSD's Ombudsman's Office at 216-838-0348, or contact Family and Job Services at 866-244-0071.
- Doors open to scholars beginning at 8:10am Monday - Friday for breakfast. Classes begin at 8:35am and end at 3:35pm. (Please note that some seniors have modified schedules where they do not have morning or afternoon classes. Please call the school and request to speak with our counselor, Mrs. Hubbard for more information regarding senior schedules).
- All parents, guardians, and caregivers are welcome to join our Parent Advisory Committee (AKA PAC). What you will do as a member is to provide us with feedback on our educational program; help us strategize and connect other families to the school; and help us decide how our Title I funds could best be used. The PAC will meet monthly on a regular day and time in order to keep a consistent schedule. We will also offer leadership positions such as President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. We sincerely hope that you take time and consider being a vital part of this committee as we consider a vital part of the educational process. To sign up, please fill out this form no later than Friday, September 17th and someone will reach out to you to provide you with information for our first meeting. Thanks for your involvement and engagement!!!
- Beginning Tuesday, September 7th, our juniors and seniors will report to classes daily at the MetroHealth Campus located at 2500 MetroHealth Drive, just minutes away from the Lincoln-West main campus.
- School start and end times remain the same, and scholars in these grade levels should continue to follow the schedule they had a the main campus.
- Scholars who do not have a first block class, may attend school at their later time; and scholars who do not have a last block class, may check out early. If a scholar plays a sport or is a member of an after-school club, they may wait in a designated area identified by administration to use as a study hall until the end of the day.
- When dropping off or picking your child by car, please be sure to park to your left on West 31st street to avoid blocking residents and traffic. We also ask that you remain in your vehicle. Thank you!
- Now is the time to maximize our efforts to continue socially and academically grow in a post- and new pandemic world by making sure we are learning every day! Please check out the Stay in the Game campaign sponsored by the Cleveland Browns in partnership with CMSD to encourage our families and scholars to learn everyday, whether in person or virtually. Clevelandbrowns.com | Official Site of the Cleveland Browns
- Please be sure that you call the office at 216-838-7100 to report any excused absences so they can be properly marked.
- Understand the long-term impact students leaving early and arriving late has on academic performance and overall test scores. Students should only leave school early if they are ill, need to attend to doctor appointments, or have a family emergency.
- Legal guardians must contact the school for early dismissals. If students leave the campus without parent notification and the proper sign-out procedure, disciplinary action may be taken.

MetroHealth Informational Session
As you know, our 11th and 12th grade scholars get a unique opportunity to participate in job shadowing and interning in the medical field through MetroHealth hospitals, giving them the opportunity to be certified and ready for work by the time they graduate. Being that our junior and senior classes are held at the Metrohealth campus, we must comply with the standards set not only by CMSD, but by MetroHealth as well. Due to the rising numbers of Covid cases in the city of Cleveland, all MetroHealth employees, partners, and volunteers must be fully vaccinated by October 31st. Therefore, all of our staff and students who work at and attend school at MetroHealth hospital are included and must receive both shots no later than October 31st if they have not been vaccinated.
We know that some of you have concerns about the vaccination and would like to know more about it. Therefore, we are having our MetroHealth doctor's do a presentation for our families and scholars on Monday, September 20th from 5:00pm - 6:00pm. This meeting will be virtual and held on Zoom.
Although vaccinations can be taken at any location of your choice, to accommodate our scholars, we will be having a vaccination drive on Friday, October 1st here at MetroHealth from 12pm - 2pm. We sincerely hope that scholars and families who are unsure about making this move attend our informational session to make a well-informed decision. We look forward to seeing you there!

LWSH's Hispanic Heritage Celebration
September 15 to October 15 is celebrated nationwide as National Hispanic Heritage Month. It traditionally honors the cultures and contributions of both Hispanic and Latino Americans as we celebrate heritage rooted in all Latin American countries. During this month and throughout the year, we, and our partners, share history, heritage, and accomplishments of Hispanic and Latino Americans of past and present.
Hispanic refers to a person who is from, or a descendant of someone who is from, a Spanish-speaking country.
Latino/a or Latinx refers to a person who is from, or a descendant of someone who is from, a country in Latin America.
We are going to take time to honor and celebrate the history, heritage, and accomplishments of Hispanic and Latino Americans within our school community and beyond! Join us for this special celebration of American history!
