CHS to Meet with CMS 8th Grade This Week

This is a reminder that counselors and Administrators from Corner High School are scheduled to meet with Corner Middle School 8th grade students this week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in pre-set designated meetings to discuss freshman scheduling for the 2021-2022 school year.

Please refer to the schedule you received in the GRAY FOLDER on the Focus on the Future Freshman Family Night. If you were unable to attend and did not receive a folder, please come to the CMS office tomorrow. If you are in a remote setting, please contact the office for more information. If you have questions regarding the meetings or your appointment time, please contact Corner High School at 205-379-3200.

Last Week to Purchase a 2021 CMS Yearbook

Mrs. Tiffany Little, the yearbook sponsor at Corner Middle School, would like to remind all CMS families, that Friday, February 19, 2021, is the last day to order a 2021CMS Yearbook. The yearbooks cost $40.00 and a name can be added to the cover for an additional $5.00. Please make checks payable to Corner Middle School. Checks must have the parent's driver's license number and a phone number. In addition, please complete the attached order form below. Yearbooks will be distributed this may near the end of the school year. Please email Mrs. Little at tlittle@jefcoed.com if you have any questions.

Dress Code Reminders for the Second Semester

This is a reminder that while we continue to make adjustments to our learning environments due to COVID-19, all dress code rules still apply. They include:

  • Hats and Caps. Hats and caps are not permitted to be worn in the building except on days that are part of special events publicized by the school. Students wearing hats or caps during the day may have the apparel confiscated and written up for a dress code violation. Student-athletes should leave hats or caps in the locker rooms with their bat bags.
  • Hoods. Students should remove hoods and toboggans upon entering the buildings.
  • Leggings and Jeggings. Clothing must be worn over leggings/jeggings or tights and must be of appropriate length (no shorter than mid-thigh).
  • Jeans/Pants with Holes. No open holes in pants above the knee
  • Coverage. Sun dresses and backless dresses or tops will be worn with a jacket or appropriate covering. (Jacket or covering may not be sheer or mesh).
  • Masks. Masks or appropriate face coverings must be worn at all times inside the buildings in classrooms, hallways, and common areas unless eating or participating in competitive activity.

CMS Families, thank you for assisting us with this. I realize you probably feel like we have bigger fish to fry at this time in education than dealing with dress code, but we have been and are currently dealing with much larger issues that come from a simple "dress code" violation that include harassment, inappropriate touching, disrespect, and defiance, as well as working to lessen the impact of COVID-19 on our campus.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to refer to the Jefferson County Code of Student Conduct found at the link below or contact the school office to speak with an administrator.

Celebrating Black History Month: The Father of the Blues

As we continue our celebration of Black History Month, take a moment to enjoy the music of Alabama-born musician W.C. Handy. Handy, known as "The Father of the Blues," was a composer, musician, and educator, who helped bring blues music to a mainstream audience. In the video below, he performs "St. Louis Blues" on Ed Sullivan's Talk of the Town in 1949. Today, we honor and celebrate the achievement of black men and women in American history.
