Dear IACS Community,
While we celebrate diverse cultures and perspectives throughout the year, we had two wonderful events today that were particularly well timed for Black History Month. This morning, Ms. DiCarlo's "Spill the Tea" high school English elective welcomed Veronica Birungi, mother of Issa Sengendo (Grade 11). Both Veronica and Issa led a lesson on Ugandan culture and language. And the tea loving members of Ms. DiCarlo's class also had the opportunity to sample Ugandan tea with ginger and cinnamon and used those sensations to inspire their descriptive writing.

Thank you Veronica and Gordon for sharing your stories with our students. Have an amazing vacation!
In partnership,
Greg Orpen,
Head of School

ILP Conferences: Wednesday, March 1st
All of our students create Individual Learning Plans (ILP), which articulate the goals students have been creating for themselves. These are student run meetings with parent/guardians and advisor. ILPs allow us as a whole team to check in about how the year is going, concerns, set goals, and reflect on those goals. A typical ILP is 20-30 minutes. Advisors will be reaching out to schedule your students' meetings. If you haven't already connected with your student's advisor, please book a meeting on the afternoon of March 1st.
For new families who have not participated in an ILP conference you are invited to check out the following ILP Video we created several years ago. It is only about 5 minutes long but will hopefully give you a deeper understanding of why we've been holding these conferences for over 25 years.

Exhibition IACS
March 21st 3:15-6pm
Exhibitions: 3:15-5pm
The hallways and classrooms of IACS will be transformed into a museum of student work, with all students contributing at least one piece of academic work of their choosing. The atmosphere is relaxed as students, families and community members peruse the exhibits at their own pace. Expect to see students on hand to answer questions about their projects or conducting a short presentation. This is a great way to see the project-based work that our students create during the school year. Community members are needed to observe, comment & inspire our students.
