This is a brief newsletter but wanted to send some reminders out!
Chili Supper and Silent Auction Fundraiser - Reminder
Our 4th annual Chili Supper and Silent Auction Fundraiser is right around the corner! This year it will take place after our winter break on Tuesday, January 9th from 4:30-6:00 pm. All proceeds will go to our amazing Gentry athletics program. The value of athletics in our school is significant and cannot be overlooked. It has a profound impact on our students and the school as a whole. It can bridge gaps, bring students with relatively nothing in common together and gives students unbelievable, life-altering opportunities.
Facts about GMS athletics:
- Gentry has approximately 375-400 student athletes who compete in various sports each year.
- The CPS budget for athletics is the same for every middle school in Columbia despite our very large student population.
- Between the costs for replacement uniforms/equipment, transportation expenses and salaries to cover the cost of officials, GMS usually exhausts our allotted budget well before the school year is over.
- We couldn’t keep our athletic program running efficiently without the support of our great Gentry families!!
With that being said, and as the weather begins to get down-right cold, please plan on enjoying us for supper and a ball game for a good cause! Tickets are $7 each (in advance) and will get you a warm bowl of chili with the fixin’s, a hot dog, cookie and a beverage. Your ticket price will also include admission into our 8th grade boys basketball game vs. OLLIS scheduled to begin at 6:00 pm that same night. Go Jaguars!
Missouri's Graduated Driver License: Preparing New Drivers For the Road Ahead
First Impact is a safety program taught by Columbia Law Enforcement that educates parents about Missouri's Graduated Driver License (GDL) law as well as provides them with the tools they need to monitor, coach and support their new teen driver.
Missouri's GDL law is a three-step licensing system. The purpose is to ease teens into licensure so that they can build skill in an environment that minimizes those things that are shown to cause the greatest risk for new drivers.
The RBHS PTSA will be hosting a free, 90 minute program on Wednesday, January 10th from 6:00-7:30 in the RBHS cafe' for parents of students who are ages 14-19. Parents are also welcome and encouraged to bring their teens. Please open the two links below for further information.
