Dare to be Different!
The New Guy's Observations: Week 3
- I believe a rigorous and relevant CURRICULUM helps fully develop our students minds. A sound curriculum is the foundation of learning and growing as an individual.
- I believe students should be exposed to innovative INSTRUCTION tailored to their needs. This INSTRUCTION should help our students explore different methods of understanding that help support real-world problem solving.
- I believe students should learn in a SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT that is free of misbehavior, strengthens positive behaviors like politeness and respect, and focuses on supporting students to achieve their greatest potential.
Of these three components the SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT is the most essential component that directly affects daily student success. Not only does it affect our students daily social and emotional needs, but it also greatly affects their success in learning. Over the last three weeks I have observed our SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT: the interactions with students and teachers, students and administration, students and support staff, and students and their peers. These interactions along with many others are a huge part of our success. The ingredients of a SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT are endless. I have observed pieces that are impressive and pieces that need improvement, and the one thing that makes me happy is the amazing attitude and effort so many of our students and teachers. They are committed to making sure East is an excellent school.
Over the remainder of the school year we will have a very strong focus on improving our SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT. We will spend time daily ensuring students understand the importance of having a positive relationships with our staff. We will work daily helping students understand the importance of positive student to student relationships. These efforts will take time, energy, patiences, and understanding. In the end our efforts will improve East for every student and staff member. A safe and friendly environment is beneficial for every stakeholder of the school community and East will be committed to ensuring this becomes an essential part of daily focus.
Thank you for your support, patience, and understanding.

Student Hallway Supervision
- Be consistent, calm, and respectful. Your energy will determine their energy.
- Be present and attentive. Your awareness helps our success.
- Find the greatness; praise the greatness.
- Be on time to your locations. If that is outside of your room or a specific location in the building. Your presence is necessary for their safety and our schools climate.
Hallway behavior can easily spill over into the classroom. We must all be diligent in helping stop negative behavior during all passing periods. Please help maintain a positive atmosphere during every passing period. As I continue evaluating our processes I will be looking for trouble spots and areas of concern to help us improve student behavior in the hallways. We may need to reevaluate hallway supervision positions and responsibilities. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
