FMS Media Center
Holly L. Jolly, Media Specialist
Hours of Operation: Monday - Friday, 8:10 - 3:25
The FMS Media Center shares a space with that of Hibbett Middle School. Even with limited space, we have library books and a Makerspace. The purpose of the Makerspace is to provide students with innovative tools and technologies to support both educational goals and personal interests. Although everyone is welcome to visit the media center for book checkout and/or usage of the Makerspace, students must be escorted by a classroom teacher.
Book Checkout
●Students may check out one book at a time for a period of two weeks.
●Books may be renewed as long as the student brings the book to the media center for renewal.
eBooks
●Our eBooks are available through OverDrive.
●Students may check out one OverDrive book at a time. The lending period for digital content is 14 days. On the fourteenth day, the title will "expire" and be returned for other students to utilize.
Accelerated Reader (AR)
Accelerated Reader is a progress monitoring software by Renaissance Learning. At its heart, AR is simple. Students read a book, take an AR Quiz, and get immediate feedback. Students are often motivated by positive results, and teachers are excited by the wealth of information they receive. Instructors have access to reliable reports on reading comprehension, vocabulary, literacy skills, and more. In other words, teachers can easily manage students’ independent reading practice in hopes of accelerating reading skills.
In an effort to encourage reading, Mrs. Jolly has offered an AR incentive program to the students of Florence Middle School.
