NEW LEBANON SCHOOL
Weekly Updates
¿Necesita leer nuestro boletín en español?
Happy Saturday, Bobcat Families! We wrapped up another action-packed week at New Lebanon School. This past week, 5th grade went on a field trip to Camp Seton for Orienteering, where they met students from Hamilton Avenue School, Parkway School, and Glenville School - all students who will be attending Western Middle School together! Then, 5th grade wrapped up their week with our IB Exhibition Launch. Our Transdisciplinary Theme is "How We Express Ourselves" and their Central Idea is "Belief Beyond Boundaries." Ask your 5th grader what topics they researched yesterday during the launch. Pictures are below.
3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Families - please scroll down to read more about SBA (a copy of the letter below also went home in your child's backpack). SBA testing starts on Tuesday at 8:30am with English Language Arts (Reading) - testing continues for 3 weeks on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays (schedule below). Please be sure your child comes to school with:
- A good night's sleep
- A healthy breakfast, also available at school
- A charged iPad
- A sharp brain!
We hope you have a dry and safe weekend...important updates are below!

GPS Summer School Updates
2023 GPS Summer School will be in session from Monday, July 3rd through Friday, August 4th.
In addition to Extended School Year (ESY) services for all eligible PreK-12+ special education students, our summer programs will support academic support for invited K-8 students with priority needs in literacy and math. This year, we offer tutoring options in literacy or math for invited families who opt out of the full-day program. In addition to our academic support programs, we will hold Advanced Bridge Courses for middle school math students looking to accelerate their learning and Credit/Credit Recovery courses for GHS students.
Invited students will be notified by Saturday, April 1st via Parent Link. Families will be able to register using Family ID; links are provided in invitation letters. All registrations are due by Friday, May 19th for K-8 students.
More information regarding programming times, course descriptions, and registration can be found on the Greenwich Summer School Website.
Have a great weekend and GO BOBCATS!

Dear Parent or Guardian:
We strive to ensure that your child—and all Greenwich Public School students—receive an education that prepares them to thrive in a global economy and in civic life. That’s why Connecticut has adopted challenging academic standards, including the Connecticut Core Standards in mathematics and language arts, as well as the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). We expect that all our students will attain a firm grounding in mathematics, language arts, and science by the time they graduate from high school, preparing them to succeed in the future. Our teachers and administrators are committed to working together to support students with excellent instruction and resources to meet these new expectations.
With these statewide learning goals, Connecticut needs ways to measure student progress. Assessments are like academic checkups; they help teachers and parents see where students are, compared with where they need to be. The results can reveal subject areas where a student is excelling and subject areas where a student needs extra help. The state requires assessments in the subject areas of english language arts and mathematics using the Smarter Balanced Assessment at the elementary and middle school levels, and in Grade 11 using the SAT, which can also be used as a college entrance exam. The state also requires assessments in science in Grades 5, 8, and 11, using the NGSS Assessments.
The Smarter Balanced Assessments will take place at New Lebanon School on the following dates:
SBA English Language Arts (Grades 3-5): 8:30am Tuesday, May 2nd and 8:30am Wednesday, May 3rd
*Makeups Thursday, May 4th at 8:30am
SBA Math (Grades 3-5): 8:30am Tuesday, May 9th and 8:30am Wednesday, May 10th
*Makeups 8:30am on Thursday, May 11th
SBA Math Performance Task (Grades 3-5): 8:30am Tuesday, May 16th and 8:30am Wednesday, May 17th
*Makeups 8:30am on Thursday, May 18th
The NGSS Assessments for Grade 5 will take place at New Lebanon School at 8:30am Monday, May 22nd and 8:30am Tuesday, May 23rd.
The Smarter Balanced and NGSS Assessments are both administered on digital devices. These assessments are designed to measure skills in reading comprehension, writing, mathematics, and real-world science using questions that require students to demonstrate that they truly understand the content. In all these statewide assessments, additional supports are available for students with special needs, as determined by an individualized education program (IEP) or 504 Plan.

Estimado padre o tutor:
A Note From Mr. Beinstein...
I truly appreciate the volume of emails I have been cc’d on in support of moving forward with the field work, as proposed, ASAP. If you have not done so already, please continue to write these emails as they become part of the record and demonstrate how much the Western community is behind this work. Use this link for information and email addresses: P and Z letter writing. Your voice matters!
Just as an FYI, this was my submission to the Planning and Zoning committee. Feel free to borrow liberally for your submission if you so desire WMS Field progress

¡Tu voz importa!
