The American Artist
Resources and Strategies
Browsing vs. Searching
Before you identify your final artist, it is best to browse the works of several different artists and create a 'shortlist' of possible candidates. You can do a simple "Google search" like "American Artists," or skim through the pages of a general collection of American Artists' work. Spending time doing this will allow you to identify what you like.
Once you have come up with a list of possibilities, you want to make sure you can locate enough resources to properly address all the pieces required for this assignment. To do this, you should search specifically for information about the artists you have on your shortlist.
Our eBook collection, GVRL, contains two terrific reference books that will help with historical and biographical information. Searching Gale's U.S. History in Context is a must for good historical background on your artist. EBSCO Host's eBook Collection, Master File Main Edition, and Middle Search Main Edition databases are also worth a try for this assignment.
