Advisory
Put up ideas about what did not work in advisory for this year on post its.
What may work better for next year...
What did NOT work well this year...
1. Try and reduce the number of students in each advisory
2. Keeping at least 1 work day a week.
3. Students need to have access teachers. (Specifically, so that teachers can give extra help, catch up with absent work)
4. Change the time of day (2 votes)
5.Group the students together for next year (Band together as an advisory, High School Math Students together as 1-2 groups.) This would free teachers for interventions.
6. Structure it more. (1st ten minutes maybe map out homework, then SEL lesson etc.)
1.Academic Math and ELA lessons (not having resources for this program was tough)
2. Inconsistency and changing things throughout the year.
3. Lack of resources for the SEL
4. Same plan doesn’t work for all grade levels
5. Buy in for students is tough when not all are in to participate in activities.
4. Lack of structure is a problem
5. Too long of a passing period before the advisory
6. Hard to meet all student needs with Academic Advisory Plan we had this year.
Discussion of Advisory Topics
Carolyn B: SEL Next year we will have 2 days of SEL plans per week. Possibly purchasing a curricular resources to add to the lessons so it is more aligned with what is needed for our students. Teachers will not have stress of developing their own SEL lessons.
Work Day will be allowed 1 day a week in advisory next year. (Possibly Work Day Wednesday).
Advisory each day will have more structure. Teams need to structure the period each day so that students are aware of what is coming.. Maybe choose 5 things to do each day Together we will determine this
Ran out of time...discussion to be continued at a later date.
Spanish next year will go into Encore
Encore classes will go to a 7-week rotation
5 Encore teachers
4 PE teachers
No break in between tests during PARCC testing.
Friday PARCC week.
Follow schedule. Each grade level has its own plan.
-Dr. Orzel discussed outcome of some recent meetings she had regarding extra funding from state.
The DLT committee is working on ways to monitor current model state has for determining adequate staff amounts, support staff etc.
Illinois Empower Grant discussed (State part of ESSA)
-We were selected to be a pilot district.
-Rubric Its too long, not electronic...etc
-As a part of the pilot we have access to about 75,000 to spend between now and August. List was generated as to how to use the extra funding...email went out about upcoming PD opportunities we will engage in as a staff.
