The Gower Gazette
Week 29- April 12, 2019
In The Classroom...
In Math, we started looking at 10 more and 10 less. This has been tricky for some of the kids. To help them with this; give them a number like 43 and ask them what ten more/less would be (53/33). They need to be able to do these mentally. We are going to keep working on this skill next week.
In Social Studies, we took everything we learned about maps and began working with partners to create a map of our classroom. The kids really enjoyed doing this and using symbols to represent items in our room.
We finally got to take a look at our science experiment with unwashed sand. The kids discovered that as the sand sat, a layer of silt formed. They were able to touch the silt and use a hand lens for a closer look. We determined that silt is a smaller type of rock; even smaller than sand. We talked about where you find silt too. The kids really thought this was super cool.
Did your child come home talking about paper airplanes? This week we revisited motion and learned how thrust and lift help planes stay in the air. The kids tested out different paper airplanes to see which design flew the best. We had so much fun with this activity and it got them excited to visit the museum and make some planes there too.
Our field trip was awesome! The weather was great which allowed the kids more time to explore the exhibits outdoors. They had a blast and were so excited to share with me all they saw and did. Many thanks to our parent volunteers!
Our track out is next week!!! PLEASE read the "notes" section for very important info about next week including our egg hunt, field day, and track out!
Have a great weekend!

Notes~
- Egg Hunt- Our egg hunt is next week. If you haven't sent in prefilled Easter Eggs yet, please do so on MONDAY. We are keeping a tally of how many eggs we have so that we'll know how many eggs each child can find. Your child will need to bring a basket or bag to collect their eggs on Wednesday. You are welcome to come join us for the hunt. It will begin at 1:10. Many thanks to Eastyn's mom who is going to hide our eggs. She could use some help though. Let me know if you can come at 12:45 to do that.
- Field Day- Field day is on our track out day, Thursday the 18th. It begins at 12:30. Our lunch time will be moved that day to an earlier time. It will be at 11:35-12:05. Parents are welcome to come have fun with us on Field day. The kids will be wearing their class shirts and they get to take them home (yay)! They can switch out their shirts in the bathroom when they get to school. Remember, sunscreen has to be applied at home.
- Volunteers Needed- Mrs. Roberson still needs volunteers for field day. Please consider helping if you can. You can email her or me if you can and I will let her know.
- Track Out- Track out is next week. Thursday is our last day!!! I am headed to Italy on the 22nd and will not have internet access or a way to communicate with you until I return on May 4th. We track back in on May 10th.
- Animal Research Project- I encourage you to work on these during track out. Your child has done the research; they just need to create a visual for their animal. I will send another project info sheet home next week. These are due on May 20th.
