Hooray...It's May!

Greetings parents! I can't believe this will be my last newsletter of the year. How quickly the school year has flown by. I am truly going to miss this incredible group of kiddos. They have been a joy to teach, and I'm so proud of them all. Thanks for the wonderful support you have shown me this year and for the many ways you support your child's education. We have a busy few weeks ahead as we wrap up the year, so be sure to mark your calendar for important dates and happenings.

Chromebook Check-In...Coming Soon

Student Chromebooks and Powercords will be collected Thursday, May 18th. Please be sure your child has his/her computer (fully charged please) and cord to school on this date. If you know of any issues your child's chromebook has, please report these before the collection date. If your child is enrolled in summer school, he/she will be able to keep the Chromebook through the summer school session only, returning it once summer school is over. Please see me with any questions you might have.

What are we learning?

Reading: We are currently working on the thinking strategy of synthesizing, where students put all the strategies at work to recognize when their thinking has evolved or changed.

Word Work: In this last quarter, we are working on diphthongs (au/aw, ew, oo, ou, ow, oi/oy).

Spelling: Our curriculum is complete! Keep working on spelling over the summer using great sites like Spelling City.

Writing: Students have finished a research paper on an animal of their choice. They are working on creating a Google Slide presentation on their topic to share at our reading and writing celebration. Students will experiment with poetry writing and enjoy free choice writing these last couple of weeks. I highly encourage you to have your child continue to write this summer, journaling about his/her experiences, vacations, etc.

Math: We are working on our last unit: graphing. Students will learn how to gather data using tallies, create bar graphs and pictographs, and read and interpret various graphs. Continue work on +/- fact fluency within 10 over the summer months as needed.

Science: We are currently exploring plant and animal needs, adaptations, and life cycles.
