A Note from Ms. Davis
Dear Families,
I am super excited about the direction that the school is taking as the newly re-branded iAcademy! I know that our children will benefit immensely from the infusion of critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, and technical skills into our existing curriculum.
The addition of our WOW! Innovation Station will ensure a dedicated place for our students to learn, explore, and make content come to life. My sincere gratitude is extended to YOU for working through our PTO to raise the funds to help furnish the lab - and, to WOW! for funding the technical hardware and the curriculum materials that will enhance our experience with computer science.
Please join us for a WORK DAY on Monday, August 20! We need your help with the final cleaning and organization of our new spaces! We will get started at 8:00 a.m.
For students who ride the bus, letters with information about the new bus routes will be mailed out from the bus garage by orientation.
iAcademy at Athens Elementary has been a busy place this summer! We hosted the ASU Summer Enrichment program for students going in to the 1st - 3rd grades and a Kindergarten Camp for students entering school for the very first time. In addition, many teachers changed classrooms so that second grade could take over the rooms on the gym hallway that 4th grade vacated. Eagle's Nest Pre-K moved into the main building and our afterschool program, Latchkey, will move into their rooms on the south hallway.
Our teachers have been busy learning, too! They have attended a wide variety of trainings - all focused on improving student achievement - including Quality Questioning, Project-based Learning (PBL), Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative (AMSTI), discipline, curriculum, CPR, the Alabama State Department trainings, and Project Lead the Way. We are so very blessed with a highly motivated, committed, and knowledgeable staff!
In this edition of the newsletter, read below to see our welcome to those teachers joining AES. We are looking forward to working with them! I will publish a BACK TO SCHOOL edition before Orientation (see dates below).
I hope you will enjoy the last few days of our summer. If I can assist you in any way, please do not hesitate to call or come by.
Sincerely,
Cindy Davis,
Principal
