Literacy Corner

This week in literacy we learned the sight words look and me, while reviewing all previously taught words. During our Letterland lessons we reviewed all characters previously taught, introduced Peter Puppy (Pp), and worked on segmenting and blending sounds together to form short vowel words. Please work on short vowel, CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words at home. They are words that are easy to decode and read when sounding them out. We also began our unit on Native Americans. The students learned that Native Americans were the people who originally lived in the United States. We read many books related to Native American. They were also able to create their own Native American during literacy rotations.

We were so honored to have Mr. Jim Kiger visit our class this week. Mr. Kiger is a retired Air Force veteran. He brought many different helmets worn, telling us the history and interesting facts about each. He also answered questions posed my the class. What a great time we had!!!

Next week we will continue to learn about Native Americans, while discussing why we are thankful at Thanksgiving time. We will also be introducing them to the Letterlanders, Eddy Elephant (Ee) and Uppy Umbrella (Uu). We will also learn the sight word "play".

Math Lab

This week we continued working with numbers, counting to 100 and discussing which numbers were greater than, less than and equal to. We are using many videos in class to work on our counting, as well as other skills. I will begin including videos in our newsletters.

Next week we will continue working on counting in class. We will also begin learning about adding using objects. Please continue to work with your child at home on all the skills taught.

COUNTING SUPER HERO! (Counting by 1s to 100 for kids)

Parental Reminders...

Please remind the students of talking while the teacher is talking. We have a lot to teach, and very little time to do everything. Every minute of our instructional time is very precious

Please make sure your register your child for the Boosterthon Fun Run. All money earned will go towards a new playground for our growing school. The students earn cool prizes for the money that they collect during this boosterthon. This weekend our challenge is to make a video with your child on their website.

Days to Remember...

Conferences for our class begin. Please make sure you sign up for a time to meet with me.
