Mar Vista Parent Newsletter

Week of November 2, 2020

Dear Families,

Happy November! I hope you all enjoyed your weekend and remembered to turn your clocks back an hour! We are looking forward to another productive week and last week of the trimester! Remember that report cards and parent-teacher conferences are coming soon. More info below.

Thank you so much for participating in Drive for Schools! Our school raised over $10,000! This money goes directly to the classrooms and helps provide teachers with the supplies, materials and tools needed to deliver the highest quality instruction! We are so grateful for your support!

All families are encouraged to participate in the annual YouthTruth Survey which runs from November 2nd-20th this year. Please see below for more information!

With gratitude,

Stephanie Monroe

Mr. J's Academic Coordinator Update

Hi, Families.

We will continue our Great Kindness Challenge this week. This week’s challenge is to write a thank you letter to a mail carrier. Remember, students can also work to complete any of these acts of kindness each day:

Thank you for your support in spreading kindness throughout our community!

Students will continue to work on unit 3 in Benchmark for language arts this week. This is a unit more focused on informational reading.

I want to encourage all 3rd-6th grade students to complete at least 45-60 minutes per week on the MAP Accelerator program. Students can access this through Clever. This program is designed to support students in math at their level (based on the MAP assessment) and I have found great success when students regularly use it.

Parent Teacher Conferences and Report Cards

The end of the trimester is this Friday, November 6. Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held remotely during the week of November 16 and will be scheduled with you by your child's teacher. Please see the attached letter from Assistant Superintendent, Kasey Klappenback with details about modifications to the report card marking process. Thank you!

YouthTruth Family Survey

I am writing to ask for ~15 minutes of your time to complete an online survey that will help us improve your child’s school. We have asked YouthTruth – a nonprofit organization that supports hundreds of schools and districts across the county – to conduct an anonymous survey on our behalf.

Please take the survey before it closes at midnight on November 20th by clicking this link:

Please note:

· The survey needs to be completed in one sitting.

· We ask that one member of each household fill out the survey.

· If you have more than one child who attends the same school, you may respond to the survey multiple times - one time per child.

· If you write any comments, please do not include your name or anything else that might identify you. Your responses are anonymous, and they will be combined with the responses of other parents and guardians before being shared back with school and district leadership.

We sincerely thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. Your response is incredibly valuable to us.

If you have any questions about the survey, or our plans for how we will use your feedback, please contact me at
