Universal Screener Testing - February 21
Dear Parent/Guardian,
Since the 2017-2018 school year, the district has been proactively capturing the social, emotional, and behavioral needs of the student body through a universal screening process. All students (Grades 7-12) are provided with brief wellness screening twice a year in survey form. The Behavioral and Emotional Screening System (BESS) is a brief wellness screener that includes a student self-report that takes approximately 5-10 minutes to complete via an online platform. Kingsway will continue the use of this screener to proactively collect comprehensive, accurate, and reliable information about students’ perceptions of their own well-being.
Please note that this survey will not be used to determine the presence of mental health problems or eligibility for special education programs/resources. The results will be used as one of many data sources to determine the need for social, emotional, or behavioral support for our students. Our goal is to provide proactive, evidence-based resources to those students who may benefit. As a parent or guardian, you might be contacted and offered various options of support.
Please click here for more information regarding our universal screening process.
This survey will be taken at school during the day of February 21st in your student’s Physical Education or Health class. You may choose to opt your student/students out of participating in the brief wellness screening by emailing philippr@krsd.us by 2:45pm on February 17th.
In wellness,
Mr. Raymond Philipp Jr.

Students have access to a SMART Weekly Schedule (click link below) and a SMART Plan document each day. These documents will be helpful to families to encourage students to plan their time based on academic/enrichment needs and interests. Access to PSAT Scores
PSAT scores have been uploaded into Naviance. In Naviance, scores can be viewed by accessing the “About Me” tab in the upper right corner and then using the “Test Scores" link. Counselors will meet with students beginning the week of December 11th to review future planning, and a discussion of these scores will be part of that lesson depending on each student's individual needs. Please review the videos to get a start on understanding how to interpret the score report and how to prepare for SATs by ensuring students’ scores and accounts are linked to Khan academy which is a powerful SAT prep program. CollegeBoard will release each student's official score report on/after December 5th via email.
School Counseling Services
Kingsway Regional School District’s school counseling office offers an array of direct and indirect services for students in grades 7-12 throughout the school year. Direct services include services in which counselors directly interact with students. Indirect services include indirect organization and facilitation of meetings and resources with school and community stakeholders.
Direct and indirect services are facilitated by School Counselors, who are primarily involved with college preparation, career exploration, and Tier I wellness support. Wellness Counselors are also available to assist students and families and are primarily involved with Tier II & Tier III wellness support.

Your visit will be advertised to the whole student body and interested students who sign up will receive a pass to attend your presentation on an agreed-upon day and time. If you have completed this form in a previous year, please complete it again as we start a fresh list each year. Your offer to share your experience, expertise, and time is very much appreciated!
South Media Center Open After School
The South Media Center is now open for students after school. The SMC is open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday until 4:00pm. Students can sign in after school at the South Media Center. This is a time for students to work on homework/projects and to meet teachers for additional support.
Student Chromebooks: Expectations for the 2022-23 School Year
Our 1:1 Chromebook initiative supports student learning in and outside of the classroom. The district-issued device is part of each student's necessary classroom supplies, similar to a pencil, book, or paper. All students are expected to attend every class, every day prepared with a fully charged, district-issued Chromebook with the charging cord. We highly recommend designating a location in your home for the device to charge at night and to be easily placed in the student's backpack in the morning. Establishing this routine from "Day 1" is critical. Click here for more information related to our Chromebook expectations.
