Roundup: On Monday afternoon, we will welcome our newest and youngest Texans from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. All are welcome to take part in Pre-K and Kinder Roundup!
GRACE: Our Dad's Club has organized a drive for GRACE for THIS week. As many of you know, on April 11th, the GRACE food pantry burned down. This was a devastating blow to a fantastic organization. The majority of the food in the pantry was ruined. Hundreds of local families depend upon the services GRACE provides and now they are without a familiar friend to help them in their hour of need. GRACE has helped our community in countless ways so, gentlemen, lets help out GRACE!
Starting Tuesday morning, we will do a GRACE Food Pantry Drive. The purpose is to stock them back up, give them a kick start to recovery and show our children what it means to be good members of the community.
GCISD Purple Up: April is the month of the Military Child and GCISD will "purple up" on April 24 to show support and thank military children for their strength and sacrifices. The month of the military child is a time to applaud military families and their children for the daily sacrifices they make and the challenges they overcome. Purple symbolizes the combined colors of all the military branches - Army green, Coast Guard blue, Air Force blue, Marine red, and Navy blue. Make sure to come dressed in your purple on April 24!
- K-4th Grade Teachers: Please take a minute to complete this two question survey. Thank you!

Summer Learning Opportunities for GCISD Staff
As the end of our school year rapidly approaches, it's time to begin thinking about how you'll spend your lazy days of resting and reflection. The C&I team has compiled many opportunities that will help to grow and challenge the "teacher side" of your brain during the summer weeks. Please browse through the options and select the ones that meet your personal learning goals.
If reading by the pool (or inside in the air conditioning) is your preference, be sure to stock up on titles that meet your learning needs before you leave. GCISD has two new options for accessing books, so please check these out as well!
Child Nutrition Week May 7-11
Child Nutrition Appreciation Week is May 7-11. Have you thanked a lunch lady today? Let them know how much they mean to the students and the school day!
To kick off Child Nutrition Appreciation Week, Grapevine-Colleyville schools will celebrate School Lunch Hero Day on May 4. School Lunch Hero Day provides an opportunity for parents, students, school staff and communities to thank those who provide healthy meals to 30 million of America’s students each school day.
Grant Opportunity: VOYA is offering teacher grants for projects that are innovative creative and positively influence students. Each year, 100 finalists receive a $2,000 grant and three are selected for additional grants. Click here for more information.
Learning Institute: The Curriculum and Instruction department is gearing up for the 2nd annual GCISD PK-12 Learning Institute which will be held on August 9th at Grapevine High School. Last year, this experience received rave reviews from staff and included over 400 sessions taught by teachers and leaders from across our district.
This year promises to be even better with new session formats and a consolidated one-day event that everyone can enjoy. (It's important to note that all induction and ethics training will be held on a different date). Additionally, the C&I leadership team is planning to launch registration for Institute sessions in late May before teachers leave for the summer break. To accommodate this timeline, all presentation proposals must be received by May 1st!
Please consider a session proposal to share your unique perspective and great work with colleagues from across the district. Please read the proposal form carefully before completing it, and please be sure to submit it prior to May 1st.

Back to School Fair:
We are excited to announce that GCISD is once again partnering with the community to serve our economically disadvantaged students. The seventh-annual Back to School Fair is scheduled for Saturday, August 11, from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at Grapevine High School. This is a collaborative event sponsored by GCISD, CONNECT, the Grapevine-Colleyville Education Foundation, and the Women's Division of the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce. Last year, with support of our staff and community, these organizations provided free backpacks, school supplies and other back-to-school needs to approximately 1,200 GCISD students.
We are in desperate need of volunteers! We need both English and Spanish speaking volunteers - the more, the better. This is a very rewarding experience and you will be happy you were part of it - guaranteed! We need assistance with checking families in, guiding families through the fair, and assisting nutrition and transportation with bilingual communication.
Join us in the fun of helping our less fortunate families. We look forward to seeing you there.

So far BES has 6 students registered that have completed the challenge. I have had
hard copies of the student recording forms for each challenge all year. If any of your
students need one, send them to me.
May 11 - District due date for student books in order to have time to account for all books, send
home late and lost notices, collect any fines, etc. *Since we still have a round of
STAAR after that, I am going to only ask for books from K-2 students on May 11. I will
extend the date for grades 3-5 so they can have books for testing. Students in grades
K-2 can use Overdrive (in ClassLink under Learning Commons Resources) and check
our eBooks from now on, even throughout the summer.
May 14-18 - STAAR Testing - the Learning Commons will be closed
May 18 - Books due from grades 3-5 students. *All student books should be turned in by this time.
