CRE Gives Back
Cumberland Road Elementary is excited to be a part of the Love Indiana Food Drive this year. Our goal is to give our students and families an opportunity to experience the joy of giving. It may come as a surprise that there are many families right here in Hamilton County who are struggling to put food on the table. Winter break is an especially hard time when children are not in school and assured of having one meal each day. We would like to ease that stress by providing boxes with two weeks’ worth of easy meals and snacks for as many children as we can in Hamilton County and the surrounding area.
Our school-wide service project is to have each class put together one completed box. Your student should have come home today with information and a highlighted item we would like them to donate. Please know that this is only a suggestion and we fully understand if you are unable to donate. Our community has an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children; both those who give and those who will receive. We hope this will give you an opportunity to talk with your children about gratitude and the joy of giving to those in need. Donations will be accepted starting on Monday, December 3rd and go through Wednesday, December 19th.
Cumberland Road Elementary has set a goal to fill 50 boxes for those in need. Each classroom filling a box will equal 26 boxes. That means in order to meet our school goal of 50 boxes we will need your help! There is no pressure, but If you are interested in your family or workplace making an impact and filling an entire box on your own then please do! We will have a limited number of boxes here in the CRE office that you may pick up, but please feel free to use any box that the items will fit in to. If possible, please have individual boxes completed and returned to CRE by Tuesday, December 18th.
Thank you so much for your generosity and compassion!
*Thank you to FitzMark Inc. for the generous donation of boxes.
A great time was had by all at our first movie night! Thanks to all who came, it was an awesome turnout with 261 kids signed up!
December Box Tops Drive
Submit Box Tops to your Child's teacher now through December 14th! All classes that submit 150 Box Tops will earn a bonus recess and the Top Class in the School will earn a pizza party! Make sure to put your Box Tops in a bag and label with your child's name! The PTO is keeping a running total of individual contributions - for every 50 Box Tops a student submits, they will earn 1 entry in an end of year drawing to throw a pie in Mr. Hurst's face! Our goal this year is 15,000 Box Tops = $1,500 for our school! Next time you are at school, check out our display by the cafeteria to see how close we are to reaching our goal!
Hedgehog Hannah
Students AND staff had a great time celebrating their amazing fundraising efforts at the schoolwide Hedgehog Hannah show last week. We captured a lot of pictures so feel free to browse!

STEM news
Exciting things are happening in STEM class! Over the last few weeks we wrapped up our Fall STEM unit. Several classes learned about why pumpkins found in a pumpkin patch are orange and how they are alike/different than wild pumpkins. We also had fun making applecanoes (apple volcanoes) erupt! We tested them using baking soda, vinegar, and dish soap. Students were challenged to make pumpcanoes at home with leftover pumpkins! Some classes also completed a fun STEAM activity for Thanksgiving. This week older students completed an umbrella challenge while younger students enjoyed Exploration Time.
Cookie cutters- Students really enjoy using cookie cutters to trace and color during Exploration Time. If you have any you no longer use at home, we would appreciate your donation!
Exploration Time Donations: I am always taking Exploration Time donations that you may no longer use at your home. Example items include: building blocks, marble runs, play-doh, coloring books, legos, etc…
