http://www.truthaboutschools.org/Learning Liaison's Focus of the Week: Closure
There are 2 ways to think about closing a class.
First, physical closure: Packing up, cleaning up, and managing resources. This is important so students can feel at ease. It is stressful when a student feels rushed and stressed getting out of class on time. A calm, peaceful closure is desired.
Second, Learning Closure: Bring the lesson and the learning to an intentional stopping place. (Regardless of content mastery or finishing an entire lesson)
Lesson closure should: highlight student misconceptions and allow time for the teacher to clear them up. Create an opportunity for the teacher to know who gets it, who does not, and to what degree of understanding. Lesson Closure does not have to be fancy. Just a simple question (or 2-3 questions) where students can discuss and demonstrate what they know and share any questions they are unclear about.
See link below for closure ideas (compliments of the fabulous SS PLC) For each idea, ask: If I use this strategy, will it tell me what students know about the lesson before they leave? Will it take a ton of planning time and grading time? How much time will it take to implement?
AVID Walkthroughs- November 7th (9 am - 2 pm)

Period 2 - (last 20 mins) 1 observation
Period 3 - 2 - 20 minute observations
Period 4 - 2 - 20 minute observations
Period 5 - 1 observation
