We Need S’more Teachers like You!
Maryland Integrated Science Assessments (MISA) begins this week!
Students will be taking the MISA during their regularly scheduled science classes (there are some exceptions). MISA testing will take place 5/7, 5/8, 5/9, 5/10 and 5/13 -- one unit taken each day. If a student has a testing conflict with either AP testing or CSM Math Dual Enrollment testing, the priority is AP testing and CSM Math Dual Enrollment testing (in that order).
Information about the high school MISA:
The High School Maryland Integrated Science Assessment (HS MISA) is the final assessment in a series of science assessments that a student will take aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards. The HS MISA was field tested in the 2017-18 school year, replacing the HSA Biology assessment at the high school level. The HS MISA will be given in January and May of each school year and in the 2019-2020 school year it will also be given in the summer.
The assessment consists of five sessions. In each of the sessions, students will read information about two separate phenomena and respond to items about each. One of those items will be a constructed response item and the other items will be a combination of selected response, fill-in-the-blank, matching, and other technology enhanced item types.
Standards being assessed:
Next Generation Science Standards
Fall 2018 High School Released Items and Sample Student Responses
Fall 2018 HS MISA Released Items and Answer Key
Arctic Ice Released Item Set Constructed Response Anchor Papers
Earthquake Energy Released Item Set Constructed Response Anchor Papers

Grade Z Coming Soon
LHS will be piloting a new mark in our gradebooks during the fourth quarter. The grade mark “Z” will appear on the Home Access Center (HAC) for assignments and assessments. Teachers shall use Z grades as necessary for placeholders for missing assignments or assessments. The Z grades will calculate into a student’s grade as a zero immediately and until the student has earned a grade for the assignment or assessment. This will provide students and parents with an accurate reflection of their overall grade throughout the marking period.
