Safari Week is This Week!

  • First grade is going on a safari this week! Each day this week your child will be learning about a different animal, and doing some fun activities with it. Be sure to ask them about each day's adventure!
  • REMINDER: If you haven't given postcards to me for your child, PLEASE SEND THEM IN TOMORROW! I'd hate for someone to get left out of receiving a note from home.
  • We'll be going on a safari Monday through Thursday, and our entire day will be full of safari activities. Friday is spring training, so your child will get a taste of second grade!

4th Grade Buddies!

As you hopefully know by now, your child has been working with a fourth grader to learn some technology tips, including how to email! The kids absolutely LOVE their buddies, and they're learning some important skills with them! I hope you've enjoyed getting some emails from them! :)

Check out the pictures below! :)

Click here to try Epic at home!

Epic is a great online library we are using in class. You should have received an email yesterday telling you all about it. The kids love it, so if you're interested, try it out at home!

Reading Tidbits

Did you know.....?

  1. Children that do not read at least 15 minutes a day find reading more difficult than those who read daily.
  2. Children need to practice their reading skills at home as well as school.
  3. Children should not be told to "sound it out" because there are several words in the English language that can not be "sounded out" this will frustrate a beginning reader.
  4. Learning sight words will help your child's reading ability.
  5. Children that do not read over summer break or extended school breaks can drop 1 or more reading levels by the time they return to school.

Please help us keep your child a successful reader!

  • Have them read daily. Visit the library to keep books on rotation so they never get bored.
  • Use iStation frequently. It will be available all summer long.

Have You Seen Our Book??

We seem to have lost our book Winnie the Pooh and Some Bees. This is the book that travels with Honey Bee from house to house. If it was accidentally left at your house, please send it to school with your child. We miss it and would love to have it returned!

iStation and Reading

  • As summer approaches, it's important to establish good habits at home to help your child keep growing their brains.
  • Be sure to build in a time for your child to read every day.
  • Children who do not read at least 15 minutes a day find reading more difficult than those who read daily. They more your child reads, the better a reader they will become!
  • iStation will still be available to your child through August! This is a fantastic resource provided by LISD that the kids really enjoy. Schedule in 3 times a week to work on iStation for 30 minutes. When they're done they can be rewarded with a GoNoodle activity! Scroll down for access to Go Noodle. :)
  • Here are their usernames and passwords:
