South Carolina
A proprietary colony
I remember Pennsylvania back in the 1660`s. There were many men that were inhabitants and 4,000 were in Pennsylvania. I remember hearing about William Penn in and out of jail, the son of King Charles II leading supporters. William Penn finally received his charter. What he did for our land was raise money by selling our land to wealthy Quaker merchants and in return they received government positions and economic concessions. Penn had clear views on what he wanted for our colony and how it should develop. He wanted the orderly growth of farming villages, along our rivers and creeks, each house we lived in are set far from its neighbors to prevent the spread of fires. Many of the Europeans were attracted to us in Pennsylvania due to Penn`s policies. Soon we were populated by communities that can speak different languages and that practice a different religion. We lived how we wanted and pursing the economic activities we found most profitable.
