Writing a Summary
A Summary Should Be:
- Accurate!
Make sure the information actually happened in the book--not in the dream you had last night.
- Balanced!
Write the same amount for each section. Don't write five pages on chapter one, and two sentences on chapter two.
- Unbiased!
Stick to the facts. Don't include your personal opinions about the story.
- Original!
In your own words, not your neighbor's, not the author's--written by yours truly.
Top Three Things to Keep In Mind
1. Understand what you have read!
2. Write IN YOUR OWN WORDS. Only use quotations if absolutely necessary.
3. Make sure to separate the main ideas from the details.
