Strong Minds, Happy Hearts
1 in 5 children suffer from mental illness. That’s 80,000 children in Bexar County alone, and only 1 in 5 of those children who suffer from mental, emotional, or behavioral problems actually receives treatment. The statistics for those who don't get help are staggering.
Parents can often feel overwhelmed with all the information that is out there regarding children’s mental health and illness. To help provide education and tools, One in Five Minds teams up with local schools districts and local partners to bring Strong Minds and Happy Hearts - A Conversation on Children's Mental Wellness to parents and caregivers in the community.
Strong Minds and Happy Hearts is designed to raise awareness for children’s mental wellness, educates parents and family members and encourages them to seek help for their child if needed.
This is a free event being offered at McDermott elementary this year, for anyone interested in learning more about Children's Mental Wellness.

Random Acts of Kindness Week 2020 - Feb. 10 - Feb. 14
To commemorate and celebrate the contributions to our nation made by people of African descent, American historian Carter G. Woodson established Black History Week. The first celebration occurred on Feb. 12, 1926. For many years, the second week of February was set aside for this celebration to coincide with the birthdays of abolitionist/editor Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln. In 1976, as part of the nation’s bicentennial, the week was expanded to a month. Since then, U.S. presidents have proclaimed February as National African-American History Month.
Thank you McDermott teachers, administrators, staff, parents/guardians and students for your support!
