CHARACTER CORNER
Wisdom is knowledge, experience, and good judgment.
“It requires wisdom to understand wisdom; the music is nothing if the audience is deaf.” - Walter Lippmann
PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Bumpus Family,
We have received some of the nicest and positive emails from our parents in the last few weeks. We have started to share some of the most memorable quotes through our social media platforms. Thank you.
If your academic time with your child(ren) involves tears, let us help you brainstorm ways to make life a little easier. We've been at this for four weeks. We're ALL learning what works and what doesn't work. What works for 20 kids may not work for another. Reach out to your classroom teacher first...better yet, encourage your child to ask the question. If that doesn't help, your grade level counselor and administrator are here to help you both - student and parent.
Half-Way Day - Friday, September 25, 2020
RFB does not send home traditional Progress Reports to be signed but instead asks our stakeholders to participate in Half-Way Day. The objective of Half-Way Day is to advance our half-way point progress reporting methods to provide a more meaningful line of communication between students, parents and teachers. Let’s use our technology to increase the flow of information while decreasing the mis-communication caused by sending home a static grade report. You will be asked to check your child's current academic progress in INow and acknowledge that you have reviewed the grade on the Google Form provided by the academic teams.
COVID Exposed and COVID Positive
Parents, please remember, it is very important to call the health room if your child has been exposed to or is positive for Covid 19 as soon as this information is known. This will help determine if your child needs to stay at home and for how long and if anyone in their class will need to stay home from school as well. It's the best way to contain any potential spread. Thank you.
Myschoolfees.com
We appreciate the parents who have already paid the fees. We currently have an outstanding bill for locker servicing which took place this summer and student agendas. All students who are Face-to-Face at any point throughout the course of the school year will be billed for locker use. Student agendas were pre-ordered for each student. If you neglected to pay the hall locker fee or for your agenda, please do so as soon as possible, but no later than Friday, Sept. 25th. Thanks.

INFORMATION FROM OUR SCHOOL NURSE, MRS. SCHMITH
Parents, please remember, it is very important to call the health room if your child has been exposed to or is positive for Covid 19 as soon as this information is known. This will help determine if your child needs to stay at home and for how long and if anyone in their class will need to stay home from school as well. All information that is discussed and obtained will be kept confidential and not disclosed to anyone. (except Dr. Maddox, Mrs. Phillips, HCS lead nurse and Health Department (if necessary)) without your permission.
Please see link below for guidance when your child has to be home due to COVID.
You can contact the Nurse Schmith in the health room at 205-439-2230 or email at mschmith@hoover.k12.al.us
Thank you for allowing us to keep your child safe and healthy while at school.

Myschoolfees
MySchoolFees opened last Tuesday. Please pay your child's school fees online as soon as possible, but no later than Friday, Sept. 25th.
Please remember that Face to Face students using lockers MUST pay the Locker Fee of $10.00. (It is listed under Optional Fees this year because our virtual students who are not using lockers don't have to pay it.) We have the lockers serviced each year and must collect this money to pay the bill for that service. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation!

ATTENDANCE - MRS. PHILLIPS
Attendance questions? Please email Mrs. Phillips at aphillips@hoover.k12.al.us or call (205) 439-2268
- For the first 4-week staggered schedule: Please make every effort to make appointments on the student's virtual days so valuable, in-person instruction is not missed.
- A parent/doctor note is still required within three (3) days of returning in order to excuse an absence or check-in/out and can be dropped in the excuse boxes in the main lobby or throughout the school.
- Anticipated absence forms need to be filled out entirely with parent and all teachers signatures, and turned into the 2nd floor office for approval at least three (3) days prior to the anticipated absence in order for it to be excused. Anticipated Absence Forms should include all consecutive school days within the requested time (including in-building and out-of-building days). Students can pick up the form in the 2nd floor office or download it off the Attendance page on the Bumpus website, have parents fill out and sign, and then have students bring it to school for the teachers to sign prior to turning back in to the 2nd floor office for approval.
NEWS FROM OUR COUNSELORS
Hello Parents/Guardians,
September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.
Suicide is the second leading cause of death for young people ages 10 – 24. It is also one of the leading causes of PREVENTABLE death. We lose approximately 130 young people nationwide in this age group to suicide each week. FOUR out of FIVE teens who attempt suicide have given clear warning signs. That means in 80% of these cases we have an opportunity to intervene and possibly save a young person who is at-risk.
If you are immediately concerned about your child or a friend, text Crisis Text Line at 741741 or call the Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255). These services are free, confidential and available 24/7.
