Kindergarten News ACES
Week Of November 20th
Highlights From Last Week....
In Reader's Workshop, we continued to look at the picture AND the first letter of the word to see if it makes sense! We also worked on raising our level of talk with one another. We focused on listening to each other and building our conversation on what our partner said.
In Writer's Workshop, we have been working on open responses to the text that we read. This week our focus was the problem and solution to the story.
In Math, we continued our unit on shapes. We are learning what the names of both 2D and 3D shapes are and what makes the shape that shape. For example, a triangle is a flat shape that has 3 sides and 3 vertices. A cylinder is a solid shape with 2 circle faces connected by a tube.
In Phonics, we practiced letter sounds and learned the sight words "in" and "on", please practice these words at home. Our letters of the week were "w" and "v".
In Science, we continued our unit on motion.
In Social Studies, we began to talk about Thanksgiving and why we celebrate it.
A peek at our learning this week...
We will use this time to review the letters and sight words that we have learned up until this point.
We will review and practice with shapes this week by playing games that will challenge our thinking and have us use new math vocabulary words!

Please practice letters and sounds with your child nightly! Thank you!
Reading:
Great job reading with your child!

We are now just eating one snack per day, so there is no need to pack two snacks! Thank you!
Notes from Mrs. Maillet
WOW! I assessed your children in their reading, sight words, letters and math. They are really moving along. Please continue to practice the flash cards that I sent home. I also am going to be sending home a book at your child's reading level weekly. Please read these frequently. For math, please keep counting with your child. They are missing several of the teen numbers. I will continue practicing at school, but a little extra help from home would be greatly appreciated.. Thank you for all that you do!!
We will be having a holiday party on December 22nd. In light of the holiday and literacy, we will be participating in a holiday book swap. The dollar value on the books should be about $5.00 (Ocean State Job Lot has a great selection for low cost). I will also be sending home a book order with a coupon. The order will be placed on December 7th. If it is a hardship and this is not feasible for you, please let us know in advance. We always have extra books that your child can choose and give to their classmate. If you would like to provide a snack, please let me know.
Notes from Miss Driscoll
Tissues and paper towels are still on our wish list!
Thank you for all that you do and have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Notes from Mrs. Goldthwaite
This week we finished up our module 2 on flat and solid Shapes and position words. We created a Native American using shapes.
This week in science we talked about motion. We graphed items that can be pushed or pulled. We all got a ride in Mrs. Goldthwaites chair. Lots of fun.
December 11th and 12th. We will be having parent/ teacher conferences. Please watch for a notice to sign up for one. At this time your child will be getting a report of how he/she is doing. If you feel that you will not be able to make one of those days. Please let me know and we can set up a time ahead.
We continue to need clorox wipes. Thanks for those who have sent some in. We are good with all other supplies at this time.
I hope you have a great weekend.
Notes from Mrs. Potter
If your child has mastered the letter/keyword/ sound cards that were sent home, a fun game to play would be to flash the card and see if your child can quickly identify just the letter name or the letter sound! It is our hope that these sounds will become automatic for students so that they will be able to use them to help sound out unknown words.
Notes from Mrs. Marcoux
Conferences will be held on December 11 and 12. Signup sheets will be coming home soon.
We had a great time on Friday for our first day of reading with our 4th Grade Reading Buddies! Thank you Mrs. Beaulac!
Thank you for all that you do!!! Keep up the great work!!
