Library Mission and Goal Statement

The mission of our Atlantic City Public Schools’ libraries is to prepare our students to be college and career ready by providing student access to digital and print resources, literacy programs, and current technology, which are integrated into the curriculum. This is accomplished through the development of 21st century skills; the ethical use of technology and other sources while students learn to access, evaluate, and produce information; thus preparing them to participate in a global society.

The goals of our library program are embedded in the belief that a media rich, well-run library, will even the playing field for our urban students, thus setting the stage for increased student achievement. These goals include the following: 1) Every library should have a highly trained and certified school librarian to guide students to appropriate tools, technology and resources, 2) sustain and elevate programs that build on the 21st Century Learner in Action Standards, and 3) build on the foundation set forth by the Empowering Learners: Guidelines for School Library Programs.
