Read-a-thon
It's time for Greenland's 4th annual Read-A-Thon fundraiser! Last year Greenland students raised nearly $6,000 by getting sponsors to encourage their reading. This year we're streamlining the process by doing an online Read-A-Thon. Information will be sent home today to explain how to set up your child's Read-A-Thon page. Reading minutes, sponsors, donations, and prizes will all be handled online. There is even an option for business sponsorship. If you'd like to know more about being a business sponsor, there are forms in Greenland's office.
This week, February 21-26, is the week to gather sponsors. Next week, February 27-March 5, is the actual Read-A-Thon. Finally, wrap up week is March 6-12, when all donations and minutes are tallied and prizes for fundraising are selected online.
Thank you for your patience and support with this fundraiser!
Keep Bringing Books for the Book Swap
Bring your final donations by Friday, February 24.
We're also in need of some helpers for the book swap and the Read-A-Thon door decorating contest. Check out the sign up to see how you can help. http://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050b4eaea72fa46-2017
Thank you!
A little more info:
Thank you to everyone for making their read-a-thon pages and getting sponsors this week. Although the website lets you start logging minutes right now, please remember that we won't start counting minutes for top grade level readers until 6:00 am Monday morning, February 27. This will give everyone a chance to get their pages set up and we'll all have the same amount of days to read. Minutes will be counted from Monday, February 27, through Sunday, March 5.
SODEXO - Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwich Wednesdays-Fun on the Run Bag
To: All Elementary Parents
Re: Fun on the Run Bag
February, 2017
Dear Parents,
The Sodexo Food Service Team has an exciting new 4th option for lunch starting in March, we call it the Fun on the Run Bag. We understand how time consuming and expensive it can be to prepare a bag lunch for your child, which is why we have decided to offer this choice in our elementary schools. The bag is also $2.45, just like the other lunch choices, and is a qualifying meal for families on the free or reduced meal program.
We have chosen 5 different bags which correlate to the day of the week, meaning Monday will always be the same choice, Tuesday the same choice and so on. Due to the popularity of peanut butter & jelly, we have made the decision to offer a pre-packaged Smuckers Uncrustable PB&J on Wednesdays only in the Fun on the Run Bag, with Wednesday being the only day we offer a peanut butter & jelly sandwich.
I have provided a sample menu of the daily Fun on the Run options. This menu is also available on the food service district web page under the menu option, we have provided a link. We have seen much success with this choice at similar school districts, the kids love this choice. Please feel free to reach out to me at any time, I am more than happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have about this additional lunch choice and the peanut butter and jelly option, my contact information is listed below.
Kind Regards,
Tina Hohlfeld

The race is on
In the second week of the Box Tops contest, Grade 1 Groth made a big jump to take the lead with 501 Box Tops! Second place is Grade 1 Ellis with 449, and a very close third place is Grade 3 O'Leary with 443. Check the bulletin board to see where your class is in the race!
This is the LAST WEEK for the Box Tops contest.
We have to have all Box tops counted, sorted, packaged and submitted by March 1, so we need you to please TURN ALL BOX TOPS IN BY TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 21.
Every Box Top helps!
We use the funds raised to pay for fun items at Greenland Games, so please turn them in! Don't forget to write your name and your teacher's name on your collection sheets.
Thank You!
