Some Friendly Reminders..
Please remember to put all absences in Skyward and Frontline as soon as you know that you will be absent. If your absence is not put into Skyward/Frontline, you will not have a sub. Please test your login and password in advance of your absence, if you haven't already, to make sure that it works for you. This will ensure that you can still get into the system so that you know if there are any issues with your login prior to actually needing it.
Please remember that classroom doors should be locked at all times. Please use magnets so that students can move in and out. In actual school emergencies, there have been no fatalities recorded from a room where the door was locked. This is powerful. Please make sure your classroom door is always locked.
Arts classes.
Please remember to make sure that each teacher on teams have the same Canvas dashboard so that parents and students can easily navigate and find what they need in each class.
Team teachers coming to the bus stop each day need to carry radios.
Teachers, please remember to set up your voicemail accounts on your classroom phones. Some voicemails are still announcing the name of the teacher previously in your classrooms.
Home Base Teachers of Remote/Remote Students
TEAM Teacher Observations
This week, you will be getting an email from your evaluator for the Fall semester. We will be starting observations with in-person teachers. TN Compass should show each of you how many observations that you have. Your observer can also share this with you.
Also, please know that your LBMS admin want to be in classrooms as much as possible to be a support and encouragement to you! If you see us walk in, please feel free to keep teaching! We just want to be present as much as we can for you and for the students.
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Suggestions from CO regarding COVID safe conferences:
Zoom meetings are highly encouraged for conferences.
If conferences take place in person on a certain afternoon or evening, parents are asked to stay in their car until they are called by the teacher to come in for their conference. This will avoid a crowd in the hallways or or office lobby.
Coalition For Kids
Coalition For Kids will be picking up students on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The start date for pick up will be Tuesday, the 22nd.
LBMS Leadership Team
Thanks to all of you for nominating LBMS faculty/staff for our 2020-2021 Leadership Team. This team will serve as the guiding coalition of our school and will be your representatives/liaisons to the Leadership Team. We will meet monthly on the third Wednesday of each month. Meetings are open to all staff. Everyone is invited to attend and participate. The purpose of selecting representatives is to ensure that all perspectives are heard from each grade leve and each department or area. We will take minutes of each meeting and share those with all staff. The Leadership Team will determine priorities and goals for our school and will set the Action Teams that will do the work that will help us grow and make progress in our focus areas. LT Team will typically be a two year committment, but in these first years, we will begin a rotation cycle by department/area so that everyone eventually has an oppotunitiy to serve.

Calling All Science Teachers
We have just confirmed with ExploreLearning that Liberty Bell’s Gizmos training will occur on Wednesday, September 30, 8:00 AM-2:00 PM.
Each grade level will have their own remote training with a live facilitator who will guide teachers through the two-part training. The training consists of Introduction to Gizmos (e.g., Teacher platform and student use of Gizmos) and Expanding Teacher Use of the Gizmos platform (e.g., Assessments, Data analysis, etc.).
Is there anything else you would like me to convey to the ExploreLearning training lead?
The lead for their training department said they use Adobe Connect for their live webinars (no in-person training at this time due to COVID-19). She said they run into complications when teachers are on Chromebooks; I told her that our teachers do not use Chromebooks. I will ask if there are any other tech specs needed for the training day.
Telemedicine Packets
Tel-Medicine packets were handed out this week. Completed forms need to be turned into the nurse, Laura McKinney.

JCS counselors only a call away for students, families
Three Cheers for our LB Counselors for going the extra mile!
“You aren’t going through this alone.”
That is one of the main things that school counselors across Johnson City Schools want their students and families to know. Since school buildings abruptly closed in March, counselors have been reworking the way they reach and connect with their students.
Those innovative approaches haven’t stopped as Johnson City Schools counselors are continuing to find unique ways to connect with their students and families. Counselors have made home visits, held counseling sessions on front porches, participated in Zoom calls, and some have created Google phone numbers to allow students to reach out to them.
“It’s important that our students and families know that we are here to meet them where they are during this very unusual time,” North Side Elementary counselor Robin Murphy said. “We are working diligently to take a trauma-informed approach, as we realize that many families are struggling in different areas during this time.”
Students across JCS have access to counseling Canvas pages, which provide information for both social and emotional support. Counselors are also going out into the community, as Liberty Bell counselors Stacey Philbrick, Seth Johns and Traci Honeycutt did last Wednesday in the Keystone community.
“We want to let our students and families know that we are here to support them in any way that we can,” Honeycutt said. “We want to continue to bridge the gap between the school and the community so that students and families know that we are here for them.”
The Liberty Bell counselors will be in the Carver community on Tuesday, September 22, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 500 Washington Avenue. The following week, on Wednesday, September 30, Liberty Bell counselors will be in the Heritage Park community at 2701 S. Roan Street.
Science Hill counselors are also going into the community and on Monday, September 21, they will travel to the Keystone Gym at 841 Pardee Street from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Counselors will be able to provide resources and can help students and families with food, technology or anything that might come up.
Counselors are also developing different ways to reach out to the student body in their schools. At Indian Trail and Liberty Bell, counselors are hosting minute meetings which allow students the time to meet their counselor, talk about themselves and ask any questions. Science Hill is hosting “Coffee with a Counselor” every Monday at 2:45 p.m. This allows students additional time to meet with counselors or hold group discussions.
“We want our families to know that we are walking with them hand-and-hand during this new journey,” Science Hill counselor Kim Thompson said. “We encourage our students and families to reach out to us if they need anything or if they have concerns. It’s important to remember that we are all in this together.”
If families are unable to attend these events, but still need assistance, they are encouraged to reach out to their school’s counselor through email or to contact their school’s main office.
