Robertson Rocket Parents 4/2/2020

We are excited to be finally putting together a more complete plan for providing learning activities at home aligned to the grade level standards. There are two main parts to this plan.

Part one – Learning Packets A packet of learning activities will be mailed to your home approximately every two weeks. The first packet will be going out from your child’s classroom teacher this week. These packets are intended to be completed over a two-week window. Your child’s teacher will also be providing a daily calendar for completing school work. Please do your best to establish this daily academic routine in your home.

Part two – On Line Learning Grade level teams will be working together to come up with creative ways in which to provide additional instruction and learning activities for your child. These learning activities will be sent to your child using one of two classroom on-line formats; either ClassDojo or Google Classroom. Some of our students already have experience using these websites. Watch for an email from our child’s teacher to access their class website.

These on line formats open up a wide variety of ways that teaching and learning can occur. This is new to all of us and we will be learning right along side of you to build our teaching skills. Please be patient with us, as we will of you, knowing that everyone is doing the best they can given the circumstances. Know that our commitment to provide your child with incredible teaching and important, meaningful learning experiences has not changed.

This new way of doing school requires more of a collective, cooperative effort than ever before. Your help and involvement with engaging your child in learning is essential. Stay in touch; let us know how it is going and what we can do to work together with you. The Robertson school and parent connection has always been a strength, which is something we all can be thankful for at this crucial time.

You will be able to contact your child’s teacher in two way communication through ClassDojo or Google Classroom. Please accept the invitation you receive to join the classroom. We want to work closely with you for the benefit of your child. As always, please do not hesitate to contact me directly at hummel.mark@yakimaschools.org with any questions, needs or thoughts.

Thank you for joining with us in these challenging times, during which we are thankful for being a part of the Robertson family,

Mark Hummel, Robertson Principal
