Class Placements for the 2021/22 School Year
Class placements will be viewable on the Aeries Parent Portal on Monday July 19, if you have completed the Data Confirmation Process as noted below. If you need support in creating a parent portal account or accessing your parent portal account, please contact the office at 707-778-4740. This year we will not be posting class lists outside of the office on the day before school.
Important Back to School Details
BELL SCHEDULE + EARLY RELEASE DAYS - Link to MCCV Bell Schedule
The school bell rings and school starts promptly at 8:20am for all students. With the exception of early release days, the following are the daily release times:
- Kindergarten: 12:45pm (Beginning August 16, kindergarten release time will be 1:30pm)
- Grades 1-3: 2:30pm
- Grades 4-8: 3:00pm
On Wednesdays and early release days all students will be released at 12:45pm.
ParentSquare HEALTH SCREENINGS
Families/caregivers will complete the daily screening for all students each day before leaving for school. A separate designated area for backup screening will be available at all PCS sites for those who did not complete the screening at home. Parents/guardians are required to remain parked on campus or at the bus stop until their student has been cleared to attend school.
All K-12 students, staff, and volunteers are required to mask indoors. Masking is optional for all outdoors activities: recess, lunch, and PE. Please be sure your student is masked from car to classroom every morning.
We will keep students together by class as much as possible while masks are off for eating.
DROP OFF/PICK UP
We are encouraging parents to drop off students in grades 4-8 and allow them to walk to their classes independently, and as soon as your K-3 student is comfortable, we are also encouraging parents to drop them off and allow them to walk to their classes independently.
The library will be open for classroom visits and circulation of books. For the time being, the library will not be available for use before and after school.
If you would like to volunteer on campus this year, we welcome your support. For contract tracing purposes you will be required to complete a digital sign in form so that we can keep track of who is on campus each day. A QR code giving you access to this form will be provided to you at the entrance of each classroom. Please talk with your classroom teacher for further details.
ATTENDANCE (707) 778-4741
When students are regularly late or absent from school, it has a negative impact on their learning. We encourage parents to help their children be punctual and to avoid unnecessary absences. Please call the attendance line in the morning each day your student is absent.
- Absences: The state reimburses schools only for actual days of attendance. Absences may be excused only for illness, medical/dental appointments or death in the immediate family & religious observances. We keep track of unexcused absences to help us determine truancy issues. Parents of a child who has more than three unexcused absences will receive an official warning. If attendance does not improve after the third letter, parents may be referred to the Student Attendance Review Board (SARB) to work out a program with various school and support agencies to insure the child gets to school on time.
- Excessive absences due to illness: If a child is absent 14 or more days for illness, parents will receive written notification that a doctor’s note must be submitted to the school to explain the absence and describe the expectations for attendance in the future.
- Tardy: Please be conscientious about helping your children get to school on time. Teachers start their classes with instruction for the morning lessons. Students who do not receive this information play catch-up all day. Being prompt is an important characteristic that serves students well in junior high, high school and in the world of work. Good habits start early.
- Absences from school for a family vacation: We can arrange an Independent Study Contract for work to approximate what will be covered in class. This contract must be signed in advance by all parties (student, parent, teacher). You must give the teacher a minimum two-weeks' notice to prepare a packet. The expectation is the student will complete 4 hours of work each day. The work is submitted to the teacher upon student returning to school. The contract can be signed and submitted for our attendance audit. Students who do not complete an independent study contract will be marked unexcused and considered truant by state law. We recommend all families take advantage of our 45-15 schedule and plan their vacations during our regular break times in order not to miss school.

The 2021-22 Aeries Data Confirmation is now open for year-round calendar schools and should be completed prior to the first day of school. Please log into your Aeries portal account to complete this process. Data Confirmation is a process that allows parents/guardians to update, review, and approve student information including emergency contacts, medical conditions, and other authorizations.
Families with students new to the school will receive an email with information about how to access their Aeries portal account.
If your student is new to the school and you did not receive Aeries portal login information, please check your spam folder for an email from DoNotReply@petk12.org.

Welcome to Emma Parks, K/1 Teacher
Hello! My name is Emma Parks, and I can’t wait to get to know all of you! I have known that I wanted to be a teacher since I was in kindergarten, and am thankful that I stuck with this passion of mine and developed it by babysitting, tutoring, and leading young girls (girl scouts) as I grew up. I love nature, bugs, animals, music, reading, and art (and all things Disney)!
This is my fifth year teaching. I started out working at a preschool with infants/toddlers and then moved on to teaching 3-4 year-old students. I graduated from SSU with a bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education in 2019. In my undergrad, I observed and taught in various classrooms ranging from K-6. I did my student teaching at La Tercera Elementary School last school year in 1st and 4th grade. Teaching is my passion, and I am so happy to be here!

Welcome to Heather Gallagher, Garden Coordinator
Hi my name is Heather Gallagher, and I am the mother of Athena, a 7th grade student at Mary Collins Cherry Valley. I'm happy to be of service to our school to help beautify and grow what already exists. My husband and I have worked at Heritage Salvage for many years and helped provide all the beautiful garden boxes in our school garden, the buddy bench and many Jubilee auction items.
I'm looking forward to seeing familiar faces and meeting new faces back on campus this year.
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL COFFEE - JULY 22 - 8:20am
Please join us as this annual tradition returns! After you drop off your student come to Cherry Valley Park for an informal fun way to get information about the '21-'22 school year. Parent volunteers will be on hand to answer any questions you might have about our school and upcoming events.
The PTA will provide coffee, please bring your own mug. Masks preferred. Come meet new families and greet old friends!
WELCOME CHAMPIONS CHILDCARE!
Over the summer we have done much work to our childcare portables to make them welcoming for students in the new school year. Champions will be available for your child care needs beginning on the first day of school. This fun, safe, and convenient before-and-after-school program will be located at Mary Collins School at Cherry Valley!
Champions makes the hours before and after school special. Every day, kids have time to play, explore their interests, do hands-on activities, get homework help, and relax. We take care of everything, so they can start the school day energized. And at the end of the day, we make sure they're ready to go home for family time. SUMMER 2021 ENRICHMENT CLASSES
August 2 - September 24, 2021
Refer to class descriptions for class specific days off. Contact instructors for class specific questions. For general questions about enrichment contact Sigrid Rinehart at email@example.com. Scholarships available for Cherry Valley students. One scholarship per qualified student per year, until funds are depleted.
Attention: Parents of students in grades 1, 2 & 3: For students dismissed at 2:30pm but attending a 3:10pm class, they must be supervised by a parent/adult or make arrangements with after care on campus to be watched during that time. Children must be supervised by an adult between the time of school dismissal and the start of their enrichment class.
Petaluma City Schools provides space, but does not endorse, staff, or supervise the information, activities, or events posted.
PTA ICE CREAM SOCIAL
The PTA would like to welcome our new and returning families back to school with a FREE scoop of ice cream from Baskin Robbins Petaluma. Students will receive the coupon from their teachers and our on-campus social will return June 2022 as an end of year celebration!
The coupon is good for one scoop and can only be redeemed at the Baskin Robbins Petaluma on 60 E. Washington Street from Monday 7/26 - Sunday 8/1.

7th Grade Immunization Requirements - Due August 17, 2021
Upon advancement to 7th grade, all students require the following vaccine boosters in addition to the K-12 immunization requirements:
Tdap booster (given on or after the 7th birthday)
Varicella booster (2 doses of Varicella total)
Please submit your child’s updated immunization records showing proof of their Tdap and Varicella boosters by August 17, 2021. If we have not yet received proof of these immunizations for your 7th grader, you will receive a private email notice.
Kindergarten Immunization Requirements - Due First Day of School
Complete immunization records for students entering Kindergarten are due on or before the first day of school. If we have not yet received complete immunization records for your Kindergartener, you will receive a private email notice.
Please see attached Parents Guide to Immunizations for a list of the immunizations required for school entry in California, per California School Immunization Law, Health and Safety Code Sections 120325-120375. For more information regarding immunization requirements in California, Medical Exemptions, or Personal Beliefs Exemptions, please visit www.shotsforschool.org.
