Parent Advisory Council Meeting - PAC

Thursday, Oct. 6th, 6pm

24 Westminster Avenue

Buffalo, NY

Our Parent Advisory Committee is made up of parents and guardians with common interests. Their desire is to maintain an active parent community and help ensure a parent culture that impacts our students' education, as well as help to inspire a positive school culture. This parent group aims to meet regularly to plan and host actions/activities to achieve the goals they have created. This is the first meeting of the year. If you are interested in learning more about the school, please come to our meeting.

RSVPs are enabled for this event.

Your students will take their Fall Diagnostic Assessments in Math and Reading. Your student's teachers will use this data to better support your student throughout the year. We used I-Ready to track your student's growth. They get both a target growth goal and a stretch growth goal. The target is what an average student typically achieves in a school year. The stretch goal is for students to go beyond the average and what they need to hit to eliminate gaps if they have them.

Student Celebrations

We all love celebrating our students' special events, especially birthdays. To respect the learning at the school, we ask that you only send in a special treat for the student's class. If you are sending in a treat, please ensure that it is peanut free, as we have students with allergies. Balloons or visitors will not be allowed as they cause distractions from the learning. Those are a great way to meet your child at pick up.

If you have any questions, please call me at the school for clarification before trying to send anything in.

Healthy Children

The CDC has loosened COVID restrictions significantly in schools. It is still best practice to get your children vaccinated. If you are interested in having your child vaccinated, please reach out to our Kaleida for more information.

If your child has COVID symptoms and the symptoms are improving, they can return to school if they take a home test and you notify the school of the results. If your child tests positive for COVID, they need to remain home for five days in quarantine and then can return back to school with a tight-fitting mask for an additional five days.

SICK CHILD - the rules for a child not suspected of having COVID returning to school continue as they were before COVID.

Please do not send your child to school if they have:

  • Fever in the past 24 hrs.
  • Vomiting in the past 24 hrs.
  • Diarrhea in the past 24 hrs.
  • Strep Throat - must be on antibiotics for 24 hours before returning
  • Bad cold with a runny nose or bad cough
  • Head Lice until treated according to medical recommendation
  • Pink Eye until first treatment

If your child becomes sick at school, you will be called, and you need to come to get the child without delay. It is essential that we have a working phone number for you as well as at least one emergency number for us to call in case your child needs you. Please plan ahead and make arrangements for what you will do if your child needs to be picked up. If your child has one of the above illnesses, they can not return to school until the time or condition is met.
