Return to Remote Learning
Important Points on Remote Learning:
- Our school day will still follow the same times. Kindergarten-2nd Grade will be from 8:00-12:00. 3rd-5th Grade will be from 8:30-12:30. The afternoon sessions will be synchronous (Live on Zoom) for our special education students, accelerated math students, and our students needing additional reading support. For everyone else, the activities will be asynchronous (on their own) to do independent reading and their Specials activities.
- iPads must be charged and ready to go each day. We recommend plugging the device into a charger during all Zoom sessions to help maintain the battery through the morning hours.
- Zoom sessions will be opened up five minutes prior to the start of the day.
- If you have multiple students in the home, spread them out as feedback from multiple devices in a room can cause echoing in Zoom sessions.
- If you need any technology support, please complete the tech request form. You can find this in our weekly newsletters (See above), or on our website on the left side under QUICK LINKS.
- Students should follow our remote learning expectations(see below)
Millburn Elementary School Picture Day- Postponed
Due to the large number of students in Remote Learning, we are postponing Picture Day to a later date. We will share details of our next steps when they are available.
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Dates: Monday, November 2 and Wednesday, November 4.
Times: 12:00PM-7:00PM
Teachers will be meeting with parents via Zoom for conferences this year. Parents were sent times to sign up on Monday, October 19 by your child's homeroom teacher. Each conference will be 20 minutes in length.
With conferences occurring sooner this year, please note that reports cards will not be sent home until a few weeks later. Trimester 1 does not end until November 13. Report Cards will be sent home on November 20.
November 2nd and 4th
Here are the times for grade levels on those days.
K-2: 8:00-11:00
3-5: 8:30-11:30
Mock Presidential Election
- Kermit The Frog
- Miss Piggy
Next week, students will vote for their presidential choice. To teach students about the electoral college, each class has been assigned to a state. Each day next week, students will see how their votes in their classrooms help to determine the winner. We will use an interactive map (see below) and they will see how the class (state) results will tally electoral votes towards a winner.
This will be new for us, but this will at least give students some understanding of the process as they experience it during election week.
