Welcome Christopher Jensen, Principal, Ridgeview Elementary School (July 1, 2021)
Yakima School District is excited to welcome Christopher Jensen as the new Principal of Ridgeview Elementary School beginning July 1, 2021.
Mr. Jensen was born in Benton City, WA, and graduated from Hanford High School. Growing up he spent his falls and winters playing football and basketball earning MVP and all-area honors as a linebacker on the football team. He spent his summers working the tart cherry harvest and working as a delivery driver and mowing lawns.
After high school, he spent time in South America teaching and serving the people of Chile while learning Spanish. Upon his return to the states, he attended the University of Wyoming and earned a bachelor's degree in Spanish Education.
Before becoming a teacher Mr. Jensen worked a number of different jobs including making coffin covers, making plastic bottles, building fences for the state department, delivering papers, and working security for the campus police department at the University of Wyoming.
As a classroom teacher, he has taught every grade 1-12. He worked 9 years as a Spanish teacher, ELL teacher in the Walla Walla area, the Kittitas Valley, and in the Bighorn Basin of Wyoming, plus one year as a reading specialist in the Columbia Basin. While living in Wyoming he attended Chadron State College in Nebraska where he earned his Master’s Degree in Educational Administration.
Mr. Jensen began his administrative career at Lincoln Middle School in Green River, Wyoming before moving to Thorp School District where he served as an assistant K-12 principal and athletic director for 4 years. While at Thorp Mr. Jensen helped lead the school to a School of Distinction honor for their growth in reading and math on the state assessment. Mr. Jensen then moved to Lyman Wyoming for his first principal job at Urie Elementary. He has 10 years of experience as a school administrator.
As a building administrator, Mr. Jensen’s main focus is building relationships with students, staff, and the community. He values leading teachers in high-functioning collaborative teams in a Professional Learning Community as well as creating leadership roles for students through the "Leader in Me" program.
Mr. Jensen and his wife Holly have 7 children, 5 girls, and 2 boys, and recently became grandparents with the birth of his first grandson. He is an avid fly fisherman and spends as much time hiking in the mountains as possible during the summer.
